Major spoilers for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 down below!
In the long-running Sonic the Hedgehog movie series, a character that stands out is Agent Stone, who works under Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik. With Dr. Robotnik’s future seemingly resolved, there’s uncertainty about where Agent Stone might end up. However, actor Lee Majdoub has thoughts on how he wants his character to develop in the already-announced Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
In the finale of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Dr. Robotnik (alongside Shadow) reportedly gives up his life to relocate the Eclipse Cannon away from Earth as it detonates. When I conversed with Majdoub regarding the digital launch of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, I inquired about his speculations on Stone’s future following Robotnik’s self-sacrifice. Majdoub expressed enthusiasm for exploring how the loss of Robotnik might affect Stone emotionally and potentially transform him into a malefactor.
I can’t help but feel that Stone has numerous paths ahead of him. Frankly, it’s hard for me to imagine him accepting this change easily. After all, we’ve witnessed his remarkable abilities. His bond with Robotnik spans over such a long time that I can’t envision it as an effortless goodbye. Given the intensity of his feelings, I wouldn’t be surprised if his sorrow overpowers him. In fact, I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of him transforming into a more formidable antagonist than we’re accustomed to seeing.
Majdoub expressed his readiness to explore further possibilities related to that story, potentially branching out with additional narratives featuring other characters (such as the popular Knuckles spinoff). He also shared his enthusiasm about the anticipation among fans regarding Stone’s potential role in carrying on the mantle.
It’d be really thrilling to see more spinoffs featuring Shadow and Tails. There seems to be a lot of potential in that area, as many fans have expressed interest too. Their enthusiasm just gets me pumped! I can’t predict the future, but I’m open to whatever might come our way. Does that make sense?
It’s quite intriguing to imagine Agent Stone transitioning into a major antagonist for the series, but it’s important to note that not all characters met their end in that massive explosion. In a post-credit scene, Shadow did manage to survive. While Dr. Robotnik may not possess the same power as the Sonic introduced in “Sonic 3,” this cunning scientist has a history of escaping from seemingly fatal situations multiple times.
As they always say – if you don’t see the body, anything is fair game.
However, should it turn out that Robotnik is indeed absent and we no longer receive the amusing Jim Carrey dance scenes, I would welcome the possibility of Agent Stone channeling his sorrow into a villainous role, as this has been a desired character development for many fans.
Even though the upcoming “Sonic” movie isn’t slated for release in 2025, there’s plenty to anticipate. The planned fourth installment of “Sonic the Hedgehog,” scheduled for March 19, 2027, is one such reason. What makes it even more exciting is the appearance of another key character from the video game, Amy Rose, hinted at in the post-credit scene – a significant development! If Agent Stone is the next challenge this team encounters, I’m all aboard – I’m ready for the journey!
