After The Substance, Margaret Qualley Is Going For Scream Queen Status With Another Horror Flick

As a seasoned gamer and cinephile with a penchant for the macabre, I can confidently say that Margaret Qualley is rapidly ascending the ranks of my favorite horror genre actors. Having survived the harrowing experience of watching ‘The Substance’, I can attest to her ability to induce chills down one’s spine, even the most hardened horror aficionados among our gaming community.

If you’ve managed to get through “The Substance” or any of the other films Margaret Qualley has been in during 2024, you’re aware of what a remarkable talent Hollywood has in her. At just 30 years old, she delivered one of the scariest movies that left our horror-loving team members sleepless with fear. Interestingly, Qualley is choosing to stick with the horror genre for another project.

Margaret Qualley, whose mother is the well-known actress Andie MacDowell, isn’t following in her parents’ footsteps when it comes to her career. Instead, she’s carving out her own path and making a name for herself. Her latest project is called “Victorian Psycho,” where she’ll be portraying a governess with psychopathic leanings, according to Deadline.

The upcoming movie, titled “Victorian Psycho,” is slated for direction by Zachary Wigon, who previously worked with Margaret Qualley on “Sanctuary.” Notably, one of the producers of this year’s acclaimed horror film, “Longlegs,” is also involved. Set in 1858, Margaret Qualley portrays Winifred Notty, a governess whose tale unfolds when she commences work at a secluded gothic mansion known as Ensor House.

As Winifred fulfilled her responsibilities in assisting the manor’s children with their studies, an unsettling series of events unfolded: other staff members started vanishing without a trace. Suspicions fell on Winifred, and it appears she could be a strong candidate for the mysterious disappearances.

The Substance Might Not Be For Everyone, But I Want To Talk About The Visceral Self Love Message That’s Still Giving Me Chills

With the unveiling of the film titled “Victorian Psycho”, Margaret Qualley expressed that the role offers her a unique and precious chance as an actress. Meanwhile, her director conveyed his immense excitement to collaborate with her again for this project. Wigon described Winifred’s character as a multi-faceted antihero, and praised the script written by Virginia Feito for its bold fusion of psychodrama, satire, gore, and mystery. We can’t wait to join in on this exciting venture!

2025, I’ll be diving into the chilling world of the latest upcoming horror flick, but as of now, it doesn’t have a release date on my calendar yet. Dana Qualley, who’s been having quite a stealthy stellar year, is taking the lead in this one. She kicked off her year with a collaboration with Ethan Coen for “Drive Away Dolls,” followed by another project under Yorgos Lanthimos, after “Poor Things.” Our review for the movie, “Kinds Of Kindness,” almost gave it a perfect score! Can’t wait to see what she brings to this role.

Qualley finds herself in her latest lauded film, titled “The Substance“, which bagged the Best Screenplay award at Cannes. Considering the exceptional quality of “The Substance“, it’s delightful to contemplate that Qualley might continue with the horror genre, as she is swiftly garnering the nickname Scream Queen alongside other contemporary horror sensations such as Anya Taylor-Joy, Mia Goth, Maika Monroe, Samara Weaving, and Jenna Ortega.

Looking forward to watching “The Substance“? It’s scheduled to stream on Mubi starting from Halloween night. Enjoy your scares!
