As a long-time fan of The Walking Dead, I can’t help but feel excited and intrigued by the upcoming second season of TWD: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol. The trailer has left me with two burning questions that I just can’t shake off.
Despite no zombie presence in AMC’s 2024 TV lineup up to this point, the second season of “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol” will introduce undead creatures when it premieres in September. Following the spinoff’s arrival, fans will be treated to the immediate aftermath of the Season 1 finale and gain insight into Melissa McBride’s beloved character, Carol’s, journey. The SDCC trailer has offered additional details but also raised two intriguing questions.
As a long-time fan of The Walking Dead, I can’t help but be intrigued by the sudden change in location for Season 3 announcement. With every new season comes a fresh wave of excitement and questions, but this one seems to bring an extra dose of uncertainty.
The chaotic scene unfolds just as I hoped and anticipated for this program. Although Daryl’s quiet journey of learning French might be part of it, that particular aspect seems less exciting to me at the moment. As we await new episodes on AMC or with an AMC+ subscription, I’m curious about two things that are bound to leave me pondering: [Question 1] and [Question 2].
How Are There Not More Airplanes Out There?
For any devoted fan of “The Walking Dead” franchise, it’s common knowledge that helicopters have become a familiar sight in this post-apocalyptic world. In contrast, planes have consistently seemed like an antiquated indulgence. While the miniseries “Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462” did take place aboard a plane, it was during the early stages of the outbreak and didn’t explore the broader implications of air travel.
In some uncommon occurrences, but nowhere near the intensity shown in the trailer, Carol and her new companion Ash (acted by Manish Dayal from “The Resident”) are seen preparing to travel across the entire ocean in a single journey. This raises numerous intriguing sub-questions, most notably how Carol successfully persuades Ash to commit to this perilous adventure of hers.
If Carol were able to locate a man possessing a functional aircraft capable of transatlantic flights, one might ponder over how many other such clandestine pilots exist around the world. Given the impracticality of large commercial jets in this scenario, private planes could be an effective solution for survivors with the necessary skills. However, the scarcity of proof supporting this theory raises questions: Where are these covert aviators hiding? Why haven’t we uncovered more concrete evidence of their existence and activities?
In simpler terms, this is mainly about budget and safety concerns for the production of “The Walking Dead,” as introducing planes so early in the series would have been surprising and inconsistent with the established storyline. However, considering Daryl traveled by boat during the first season, it feels quite absurd that a new character unveils a plane as their hidden weapon at this stage.
I’d find Metro airports in a Walking Dead series absolutely captivating and eerie to wander through. It’s an intriguing concept, even if it’s not realistic, from a fan’s perspective.
Will Daryl And Carol’s Reunion Actually Make Any Plausible Sense?
Despite the trailer leaving some uncertainty about who is standing behind Norman Reedus’ character in its last moments, it strongly suggests Carol, and I understand that the show intends to bring these longtime friends together for a heartwarming reunion. (Given that McBride didn’t participate in the initial season as initially planned.) Consequently, I acknowledge that some narrative liberties will be taken, as the chances of these characters reuniting are incredibly slim.
In order for me to accept this plotline, my mind requires Carol’s major journey to lead her straight to where Daryl is, with her somehow obtaining his precise location information. I can tolerate numerous vague aspects if there’s a believable link between events. However, that condition won’t be met in this scenario.
Instead, Carol and Ash find themselves amidst a desolate landscape teeming with zombies. They must now work to locate Daryl’s whereabouts. I understand that this will transpire, and I am at peace with it. However, for the sake of clarity, I would prefer if one character remarks, “It’s miraculous we’re reunited once more, given that if either of us had perished in the recent past, the other wouldn’t have been informed, resulting in a chaotic and ultimately melancholic search for one of us.”
I’ve had my fair share of frustrating experiences when it comes to losing small items that seem impossible to find. For instance, I spent weeks searching for one of my earbuds or a shirt that ended up hanging in someone else’s closet by mistake. The odds of me finding these items felt slim to none.
