As someone who grew up with the magic of Disney Channel, I must say that the idea of reviving some of these classic series truly takes me back to simpler times. Each one of these shows holds a special place in my heart and has played a significant role in shaping my childhood memories.
During one of Disney Channel’s golden eras, I spent my childhood years immersed in their original TV shows and films. Consequently, I became deeply fond of many outstanding ones. As time passed, I outgrew my fascination with Disney Channel Originals when Wizards of Waverly Place first aired, but the announcement of its reboot, titled Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, piqued my interest due to the potential for further revivals.
Disney boasts an admirable and extensive collection of original TV series, making the choices seemingly limitless. Yet, there are several Disney Channel Original TV shows I’d love to see resurface on their cable channel or streaming platform.
Lizzie McGuire
Fans of a certain age who fondly remember Disney Channel’s original TV shows were disappointed when Disney chose not to proceed with the revival of “Lizzie McGuire.” While learning about some aspects of the pilot, I must admit that I’m relieved that those initial concepts may not come to fruition (I’ll always be Team Gordo and Lizzie). However, I still believe that a revival is necessary, as it would allow us to witness how adult Lizzie navigates through the ups and downs of adulthood. She was an essential companion for many during their tween and teen years, and her experiences can still resonate with some adults today. Essentially, a “Lizzie McGuire” revival could provide comfort and understanding to those who identify with its themes and messages.
The Suite Life Of Zack & Cody
A significant number of enthusiasts for “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” are eager for a comeback. The Tipton Hotel could potentially reopen, welcoming a new generation of kids. Yet, engaging Dylan and Cole Sprouse might be challenging due to their repeated statements about not favoring another collaboration on the series revival. In fact, J-14 has compiled quotes from the Sprouse twins expressing such sentiments. However, in a July 2024 interview with Clutch Points, Dylan proposed an idea that would minimize their involvement but still breathe life back into “The Suite Life.
Interestingly enough, Cole and I had discussed this extensively before, even involving our writing team. Our initial idea was to consider another season that took us back to the hotel, where we would raise a child who resembled us, living there with his father as well. This way, we could bid farewell to the show, allowing it to continue while we moved on to college.
A majority of Disney Channel Original remakes center around the subsequent generations, making this concept feasible. While fans may yearn for the Sprouse brothers’ full return, Dylan’s suggestion might strike a balance that appeals to everyone.
Liv And Maddie
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but ponder over the possibility of “Liv and Maddie” making a comeback. It’s been almost a decade since its finale, which opens up an exciting opportunity for a revival set ten years later. The twins, portrayed brilliantly by Dove Cameron, were already living captivating lives – one as a basketball superstar and the other as a rising TV star. A revival could delve into their lives post-fame, exploring potential professional athletic careers and even greater acting fame. If Dove Cameron agrees to reprise her roles, we might even see some familiar faces return, such as Jordan Fisher and Jessica Marie Garcia, gracing our screens once more.
Cameron may consider reprising her role in Liv and Maddie once more, given that it was one of her top-notch productions. This could offer a chance for her to display her versatility as she takes on the challenge of portraying two dramatically contrasting sisters again.
Kim Possible
Reviving the animated series “Kim Possible” could be relatively straightforward due to its popular appeal and enduring fanbase. Many viewers fondly remember Kim, Ron, Wade, and their adventures, expressing a strong desire for their return. Although Disney Channel produced a live-action version in 2019, there remains a clamor among fans for an animated series revival instead.
The voice actors for the character Kim Possible, Will Friedle and Christy Carlson Romano, express interest in reprising their roles. Whether Disney and the creators of the Kim Possible animated series decide to bring back these beloved characters depends on their decision. We eagerly await a potential revival, as fans have shown great interest in seeing it again.
Austin And Ally
The Disney Channel Original series “Austin & Ally,” which wrapped up not long ago, doesn’t necessarily need a full decade to resurface. Given its appealing premise centered around multi-talented artists, it could effortlessly come back to life with a fresh cast of contrasting performers who collaborate and nurture their musical abilities. The original characters, Austin and Ally, might kick off the new series by presenting the new personalities, or perhaps the spinoff could delve into their married lives.
It appears that Ross Lynch is heavily involved in his musical ventures, while Laura Marano has numerous television and film roles coming up. This suggests that both of them might find it challenging to come back on a permanent basis. However, they may still have opportunities to make guest appearances every now and then.
K.C. Undercover
It’s quite possible that, given her current success and busy schedule, Zendaya might receive a substantial offer to reprise her role in “K.C. Undercover.” Yet, with numerous upcoming projects, such as a film with Christopher Nolan, it seems she would have limited screen time if the show were to be revived. However, this potential lack of involvement might not necessarily prevent the continuation of the series.
The title of the series might need a revamp, but it could kick off with Zendaya appearing in the initial episode, much like Selena Gomez did for Wizards of Waverly Place. This would aid in introducing fresh leads and characters. A show revolving around young spies doesn’t have to be challenging to reimagine.
So Weird
This idea might be considered quite specific since not everyone may have shared my fondness for the show So Weird during our childhood years. Airing only for three seasons in the late 90s and early 2000s, it was a unique series that stood out due to its rare exploration of paranormal experiences within children’s television programming.
In the potential reboot, we’d focus on Fi and her offspring as they encounter fresh supernatural occurrences. If So Weird’s lead actress, Cara DeLizia, has retired from acting, it could be challenging to bring her back for a revival. However, the show could innovate by having Fi assume the role of the deceased parent, guiding her child through a journey to contact her beyond the grave. One or more members of the original cast might make an appearance to keep the story connected to the original series.
Considering the triumph of “Raven’s Home” and “Wizards of Waverly Place”, Disney Channel might want to explore their rich archive of programming to weave fresh narratives within familiar worlds. Not all shows call for reboots or revivals, but some of these series definitely deserve a comeback.
