There might be trouble ahead for a possible second season of “Agatha All Along,” should there ever be one. Kathryn Hahn’s captivating streaming series, “Agatha,” premiered on Disney+ in September 2024, continuing the tale of Hahn’s comic book witch Agatha Harkness after the storyline of the 2021 series “WandaVision.” The show left several significant plot points unresolved, especially concerning Joe Locke’s character with supernatural powers, Wiccan. It was thought that a second season would be produced. Yet, this may not happen.
It appears that the showrunner of “Agatha All Along,” Jac Schaeffer, might be leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the time being, hinting at a delay or possible cancellation of a potential second season of her 2024 Marvel Studios series. Schaeffer gained recognition after serving as showrunner on Marvel’s “WandaVision” and was given the opportunity to create an enticing sequel titled “Agatha.” Now, this talented TV producer seems to be focusing her attention on a different high-profile franchise for future projects.
Based on reports from The Hollywood Reporter, it appears that Schaeffer is a strong candidate for taking over as the lead producer on Amazon Prime Video’s popular TV show, “Fourth Wing.
According to Rebecca Yarros’ highly popular fantasy romance novel series, commonly referred to as the Empyrian series, the story in Fourth Wing is believed to follow the narrative of Yarros’ 2023 book. This tale centers around a young girl who possesses an enigmatic ability and is compelled to join her kingdom’s elite dragon-riding team.
Initially, “Breaking Bad” writer and producer Moira Walley Beckett was supposed to manage the “Fourth Wing” series for Amazon. However, as per recent reports, Schaeffer has taken over this role after Beckett left.
As of now, the fourth season of “Fourth Wing” doesn’t have an established production sequence, and there’s no public disclosure regarding the cast for this project. However, Yarros has consistently expressed confidence in its television adaptation, sharing with fans in February that a casting director had been appointed for the show, hinting at updates on the progress soon.
Despite no formal announcement regarding a second season of “Agatha All Along” from Schaeffer or the Marvel Studios team, fans have held onto the belief that more episodes could be on the horizon in the future.
Initially, Schaeffer made her mark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by collaborating on the script for Scarlett Johansson’s standalone Black Widow film and working on Captain Marvel. Later, she was responsible for the critically acclaimed series WandaVision, which streamed on Disney+. Since then, Schaeffer has served as the showrunner for Agatha, penning and directing multiple episodes while overseeing the entire production from a behind-the-scenes role.
Will Agatha All Along Season 2 Ever Happen?
Given Disney’s newfound dedication to producing streaming series with potential for multiple seasons instead of one-off stories, it seems surprising that they haven’t prioritized greenlighting a second season for the show “Agatha All Along“.
In simpler terms, the streaming show starring Kathryn Hahn proved to be a major success for Disney, paving the way for an intriguing future instalment. This involves Joe Locke’s character, the Wiccan, teaming up with Agatha’s ghost in search of his long-lost brother.
The ending of season 1 in Agatha All Along seems perfectly set up for a second season, reminiscent of an MCU show. However, despite the passage of several months, there’s been no official announcement regarding a possible continuation.
It’s possible that the scarcity of updates is due to Marvel deciding not to pursue the Agatha story further in Agatha All Along. Instead, they might be considering other projects where they can reintroduce the Agatha narrative (similar to how they handled the WandaVision story by introducing it in the character’s standalone episode).
The logical setting for the continuation of this story seems to be the forthcoming “Vision Quest” series, slated for release in 2026. This upcoming series, overseen by Terry Matalas from the “12 Monkeys” TV show, is expected to delve into Vision, the father of Billy and Tommy Maximoff, following the events of “WandaVision”. This makes it an ideal platform for the narrative to be carried forward.
