Ahead of the Game: Glompa is a feel-good puzzler about connecting happy little blobs together

  • Connect Bloblings to clear levels
  • Unlock Glompa in your Glompadex
  • Indulge in some cutesy vibes this season

As a lifelong gamer with a soft spot for quirky, colorful puzzle games that offer a delightful escape from reality, Glompa has certainly piqued my interest. Having grown weary of the same old formulaic puzzlers, I was drawn in by its adorable, round-edged critters and multi-colored blobs, all happily smiling up at me like they’re just waiting to be set free.

The gameplay mechanics are simple yet engaging, with connecting the blobs feeling more like a feel-good treat than a chore. The addition of skills like hooks, magnets, and Top Hats adds variety and challenge as you progress through the levels, keeping things interesting without ever becoming overwhelming or stressful. And let’s not forget about Glompa – my new best friend and pet in the Glompadex who offers useful rewards when upgraded.

The chill background score complements the overall experience perfectly, making it easy to relax while connecting the dots (or blobs, rather). The Village is a charming addition where I can fish for rewards and interact with my Glompa pets, like tapping on Ringo to make him sprout a worm on his head. It’s the little things like that which make this game stand out from the crowd.

The only downside is that the game isn’t available worldwide yet, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hoping it will be soon. In the meantime, I’ll be busy fishing for rewards, tapping on Ringo to make him freak out (it never gets old), and waiting for the butterfly to flit by only to be immediately eaten by the frog – a bizarre yet endearing moment that has me scratching my head but laughing every time.

In conclusion, if you’re looking for a fun, relaxing, and adorable timewaster this season, I highly recommend giving Glompa a try. Just make sure to keep an eye on your app stores, as it might be waiting for you sooner than you think! And remember, never trust a frog with a butterfly. They’ll eat it every time.

Greetings and welcome to Ahead of the Game! This is where we introduce you to an upcoming video game that’s already accessible for you to play when this series is published. By tuning in, you’ll have a unique opportunity to experience games before their official release. Whether it’s through Soft Launch, Open Beta, Demos, or other means, Ahead of the Game gives you a sneak peek into the world of gaming before everyone else!

In Glompa, a delightful blend of puzzle and matching game, you’ll find adorable creatures with rounded edges and vibrant, splotched colors. By linking colored blobs diagonally or horizontally across the grid, you can release more of the same color. These cheerful critters are always smiling down at you, making each connection a joyful experience.

It gives me a boost to play this game when I imagine that I’m liberating them, allowing them to live freely in the wilderness.

As you advance through the game’s stages, you’ll gain access to various abilities such as hooks for eliminating nearby Bloblings, magnets for linking Bloblings of the same color, and Top Hats that allow you to swap them according to your needs. These tools can prove useful as the puzzles become increasingly complex as you proceed.

The situation doesn’t feel tense in the slightest, primarily due to the incredibly calming background music that makes it difficult not to unwind as I piece things together.

As you progress, you’ll gain access to Glompa within your Glompadex; these are akin to pets that provide beneficial perks when enhanced. So far, Ringo is my preferred one – a sleek red apple with some stylish green locks, who, as described officially, “has never needed a visit to the doctor.

Now, you have the opportunity to encounter these charming pets wandering in your Village. Here, you can cast a line for some rewards and playfully tap on Glompa, causing them to act up. Tapping Ringo will cause a worm to pop out on his head, making him react cutely – it’s too endearing! I just can’t.

Have you noticed the large, rounded object at the bottom of the screen, adorned with a friendly frog? The pair appear relaxed in the water, and every now and then, a butterfly darts past, bringing joy to the blob – only to be swiftly gobbled up by the frog, which results in the blob shedding tears. Despite not understanding its impact on the game, I’m completely captivated by this scenario.

So, how do you play Glompa?

The official word on Glompa is that it’s already out “globally”, but to tell you the truth, it’s still not available in some parts of the world (our globally positioned team here at Pocket Gamer can attest to that). That makes it a semi-regional launch, and I suppose you’ll just have to see if it’s available in your own app stores to be sure. I hope it is, though, because everyone deserves to have awesome happy little timewasters like this in their life.
