Ahead Of Tracker Season 2, Fiona Rene Unpacks An Important Season 1 Moment With Colter And The 'Craziest Part' Of Playing Reenie

As a gamer who’s spent countless hours navigating the intricate worlds of RPGs and strategy games, I can say that my real-life adventure with Tracker has been nothing short of epic. From the nail-biting anticipation before its debut to the thrilling twists and turns in the storyline, it’s been a rollercoaster ride that’s kept me hooked from the very start.

Earlier this year, “Tracker” made its debut on CBS and quickly gained massive popularity, leading to a swift renewal for Season 2 shortly after its post-Super Bowl premiere. Now, the long wait for season two is almost over as it gears up for its premiere in the 2024 TV schedule. Fiona Rene, who plays lawyer Reenie Greene opposite Justin Hartley’s Colter Shaw, recently shared insights with TopMob about a crucial scene between Reenie and Colter as well as the most exhilarating aspect of being part of this successful series.

Fans who were anxiously waiting for Justin Hartley’s return to primetime following “This Is Us” may recall that the show set since 2022 didn’t air during its anticipated fall 2023 release due to the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes. However, as soon as agreements were reached, the “Tracker” team swiftly got down to business, ultimately securing an early February 2024 premiere, with Hartley portraying Colter Shaw and Rene in the role of Reenie Greene.

Recently, I had the good fortune of conversing with Fiona Rene, who is known for her roles in “The Lincoln Lawyer” and “Fire Country.” Upon commencing work on Season 1, she revealed how swift the tempo became.

The most surprising aspect was that we had anticipated starting filming, as you won’t truly understand until you’re on set. However, the strike occurred, and then it hit us. We simply waited, thinking ‘Once it’s over, we’ll start shooting.’ I vividly recall receiving a call. The strike concluded on a Thursday, and by Friday morning, I got a call saying, ‘Prepare to leave in four days. You’re heading to Vancouver in four days. Gather all your belongings. Hurry up!’ I responded, ‘Alright, let’s go!’ I managed to pack my entire life within four days and relocated here, and the whole process was so rapid and insane. It seems we were among the first productions to resume.

The intense labor, demanding routine, and rapid production pace proved worthwhile as Tracker became the initial CBS series airing in primetime during the current year, with its pilot episode shown immediately following the Super Bowl. As a result, it ranked as the most-watched non-sports television program for the 2023-2024 TV season by the end of its run. I asked Rene about filming the final episodes of Season 1 after Tracker gained immense popularity, and she revealed:

Initially, I didn’t fully grasp the magnitude of our show’s success until the beginning of Season 2. Even after that, it continued to astound me. The truth is, I’ve felt incredibly fortunate just to be part of this project, and I hope it continues to thrive without any interruptions. It’s been an overwhelming experience of gratitude, and strangely enough, there hasn’t been much time for celebration yet.

As a gamer, I’m excited that even though we won’t get to see the second season until October 13, the cast started filming Season 2 way back in July in Vancouver. When I pointed out to Rene how remarkable it was for Tracker to premiere so early in CBS’ winter 2024 schedule, she totally agreed with me.

The experience was exhilarating, with events unfolding rapidly. Securing the pickup for Season 2 happened swiftly as well. A mere one and a half months, followed by a two-month break between seasons – it all seemed to pass in a flash. I found myself moving from my residence. Upon returning home, I was struck by the thought: “Wow, I have to return to Vancouver now. Time flew by so fast!

As I pen this, details about Season 2’s plotlines are still under wraps, but one thing’s for sure – Jensen Ackles will reprise his role as Russell Shaw. Meanwhile, Colter’s character is set to uncover a shocking truth about his sister that he needs to grapple with. As for Reenie, she’s taken a daring step in her career by quitting her job and venturing into law on her own. Here’s hoping this newfound freedom allows her to lend a hand when Colter finds himself in need of legal assistance down the line.

Ahead Of Tracker Season 2, Fiona Rene Unpacks An Important Season 1 Moment With Colter And The 'Craziest Part' Of Playing Reenie

In the final episode of Season 1 (available for streaming now with a Paramount+ subscription), Colter invites Reenie to spend some time with him after she left her job and he wrapped up the case. Given that Justin Hartley praised the stunning filming locations, it appeared that Reenie might have been drawn to Colter for reasons beyond just spending time together. With Season 2 approaching and the characters set to return, will Reenie truly be tempted? Fiona Rene shared her thoughts:

Wow, absolutely! As we filmed that particular scene, a pivotal moment struck me: “Yes, I want to be part of this.” I trust you can pick up on her expressions during the scene, and I hope they reflect the thoughts running through her mind. However, there’s something deeper going on behind the scenes.

Because the interaction between Colter and Reenie occurred over the phone instead of in person, he missed out on seeing the wistful expression on Reenie’s face that viewers could notice. As Rene explained, Reenie was determined not to let temptation jeopardize something valuable: she didn’t want it to spoil something special.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but feel that the character seems to understand the significance of this relationship, and she appears unwilling to compromise its core values for a weekend getaway that might stem from feelings of loneliness or misplaced motivations. Given how well things are going now, it seems wise to maintain the status quo. Yet, I’m certain she pondered over it! Oh my goodness, I imagine her hanging up the phone, heading home, sipping a glass of wine, and contemplating more deeply about this decision.

Inevitably, fans of Tracker can concur that Reenie earned a glass of wine and some rest, given she wasn’t risking it all for an escape with Colter. It will certainly be engaging to observe how their relationship (or lack thereof) unfolds in Season 2, as Reenie now holds more authority in her profession without anyone overseeing her. In the meantime, don’t forget to watch the trailer for Season 2:
