Ahead Of Wednesday Season 2, Steve Buscemi Breaks His Silence On Joining The Jenna Ortega-Led Show: ‘I Got To Work With Tim Burton Again’

The long-awaited second season of “Wednesday” is set to arrive on Netflix’s schedule for 2025. After welcoming back Christina Ricci from her role in the ’90s version of Wednesday Addams, the show starring Jenna Ortega will introduce some exciting new cast members in Season 2. Besides Lady Gaga joining the cast following the popularity of her song “Bloody Mary” and Ortega’s dance, Steve Buscemi has hinted at contributing his distinctive talents to the series.

Earlier speculations indicated that Buscemi would be taking over as the principal at Nevermore Academy, a move likely to reshape the school’s atmosphere. While he didn’t reveal many details about his duties, Buscemi spoke to THR about his experience working on the popular Netflix series, where he collaborated once more with series executive producer and director Tim Burton. As Buscemi shared:

I enjoyed collaborating with Jenna, whom I had previously worked with on Klara and the Sun in New Zealand earlier this year. Our latest project was filmed in Dublin, though it doesn’t actually take place in Ireland. Instead, we were there for several months shooting the film. Dublin was a fantastic location to live and work. Additionally, I had the chance to team up with Tim Burton once more. It’s been over two decades since our collaboration on Big Fish, and I remain a big admirer of his style, his vibe, and his unique perspective on the world.

As a devoted movie enthusiast, I remember back in 2003 when Johnny Buscemi graced the screen alongside Ewan McGregor in the magical drama “Big Fish”. Nearly two decades have passed since Tim Burton skillfully directed that heartfelt tale. Now, these talented individuals are joining forces once more, but this time they’re diving into a quirkier and eerier narrative compared to the emotional journey portrayed in their previous collaboration.

Despite the passage of time since their last collaboration, filming ‘Wednesday’ has reportedly been as pleasurable an experience as ever for the accomplished actor, not only due to the lovely New Zealand weather but also because of his fellow cast members. Additionally, Buscemi complimented the rest of the cast and hinted that viewers can expect him to work with a diverse group of familiar faces when Season 2 is released. In his own words:

Additionally, I had the pleasure of collaborating with the entire cast as well, given that my character appears in scenes involving the whole Addams family. As a long-time fan of The Addams Family from my childhood days, this opportunity was both surreal and incredibly thrilling. Overall, it was an exceptionally enjoyable experience.

The Addams Family continues to captivate viewers of all ages, and Steve Buscemi, who’s also known for his role in Fargo, is definitely among the enthusiasts. Therefore, being part of a series like Wednesday and collaborating with Tim Burton again is likely one of the most thrilling experiences for Buscemi, not just him but probably for everyone on the show. Anticipation builds as we look forward to seeing Buscemi in his role and the new principal at Nevermore Academy. The intriguing interactions and plot twists that will unfold are yet to be seen.

Beyond just Buscemi and Lady Gaga, there are other captivating newcomers to Wednesday Season 2. Christopher Lloyd, who originally played Uncle Fester, has joined the cast, as well as Billie Piper, Thandiwe Newton, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, Frances O’Connor, and Joonas Suotamo. The series is clearly setting the bar high for its second season, and given that Season 1 shattered viewing records, I wouldn’t be shocked if the creators push the boundaries even further.

Currently, there aren’t many specifics disclosed regarding Season 2 of one of Netflix’s top-rated series, but based on the rumors, viewers should look forward to it eagerly. Meanwhile, you can watch all episodes of Season 1 with a Netflix membership.
