AI Film Section of Beijing Fest Sets Jury With Guan Hu, Rob Minkoff

The Beijing International Film Festival’s jury for its second AI-content section is led by Guan Hu with members including Rob Minkoff, Tan Zhuo, Wang Lei, and Chen Jianying.

The second AI-focused initiative in Beijing arises amidst ongoing debates about the advantages and disadvantages of AI within the movie business sector.

The second AI-driven project in Beijing is being launched at a time when the benefits and drawbacks of AI are a significant topic of discussion among film industry professionals.

As a gamer, I’ve been following the Beijing International Film Festival closely because since its 14th edition, they introduced something truly groundbreaking: the ‘AIGC film’ program. This is the world’s first film festival section that collaborates with AI, making it a pioneer in the field. The goal of this innovative initiative is to delve into the immense possibilities of AI in digital movie-making and foster the seamless blend of AIGC technologies with cinematic masterpieces.

This year’s second AI-focused film event is still under wraps, but the organizers announced that Kling AI will act as their exclusive technological ally. They will offer extensive assistance to creators throughout the entire AI movie-making process, including idea conception, project proposals, and promotion of exceptional pieces, both domestically and internationally.

At the close of the Beijing festival: “The 2025 AIGC film segment aspires for ‘globalization and inclusivity,’ encouraging creators from all walks of life to utilize AI technology and cinematic language to produce innovative, cross-disciplinary works that challenge artistic limits while carrying both societal and artistic importance.

Chinese filmmaker Jiang Wen (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” “Let the Bullets Fly”), will lead the main jury for the 15th Beijing International Film Festival. This event will present its Tiantan Award. The other jurors include Chinese-American director and actress Joan Chen (“The Last Emperor”), British filmmaker David Yates (“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”), Chinese actress Ni Ni, Finnish director Teemu Nikki, Swiss actor-director Vincent Perez, and Hong Kong art director Tim Yip. Together, they will select winners across 10 award categories.

Switzerland serves as this year’s country of honor at the Beijing festival.

The 15th edition of the Beijing festival takes place in the Chinese capital April 18-26.
