As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of Star Wars gaming under my belt, I must say that the recent AI-generated Darth Maul vs. Darth Vader battle has left me both amused and slightly disappointed. While it’s always thrilling to see these iconic characters duel, the execution leaves something to be desired.
A definitive battle between Darth Maul and Darth Vader has yet to be officially explored in the entire “Star Wars” story. The pair came to blows in Ron Marz and Rick Leonardi’s “Resurrection” story, which can be found in Dark Horse Comics’ “Star Wars Tales” #9. In this one, Maul gets resurrected by the Prophets of the Dark Side to try and take down Vader on Karakin Six. However, the story isn’t viewed as canonical, and neither is their showdown in one AI-generated fan film from Instagram user and video creator @afraid_to_sleep, which hasΒ led to some inappropriate comments from galaxy aficionados.

As a gamer, I stumbled upon this video created by Minimax, a Chinese AI tool that lets users input text to generate videos. This particular clip showcases iconic Sith characters like Maul and Vader engaged in a lightsaber duel. The animations are quite striking, but the battle poses and movements leave much to be desired. It appears their lightsabers are mimicking some rather unusual body parts, if you catch my drift. Predictably, the comment section is abuzz with humorous remarks about the video’s playful aspects, rather than its impressive character avatars. Some of the feedback is a bit too explicit for my taste.
Star Wars fans believe that the Darth Maul vs. Darth Vader fight is like an adult film
One frequently agreed upon facts about Darth Vader is that he’s a potent and intricate character who demands admiration, particularly during battles. On the other hand, the initial Darth Maul was so intimidating that he made George Lucas himself feel frightened in reality. To sum up, neither of these Sith legends are jokes, but their confrontation in the previously mentioned AI-produced video seems to suggest otherwise.
As a gamer, I can’t help but notice that some of the top comments are reminiscent of a classic line from the “Star Wars” spoof “Spaceballs.” Specifically, they’re referencing the moment when @spache1791 (and others) quoted the iconic line, “I see your power is as great as mine.” It seems like the original video creator was nodding to Mel Brooks’ timeless comedy, as there are definite similarities between the AI video and Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) and Lone Starr’s (Bill Pullman) showdown in the film.
In other places, the account @the.erant.soul commented that the lightsaber fight appears quite inappropriate, saying, “I recall a mature film having this appearance.” Similarly, @daninrealslife expressed a similar thought by stating, “The lightsaber looks like they’re waving their manhood around.
It’s uncertain if Disney will utilize this tool for a potential fight scene between Maul and Vader in the future. Given their commitment to maintaining a family-friendly reputation, such a depiction might not align with that image.
