Listen up! The notable AI-focused music creation firm, Sonuo, has recruited Paul Sinclair, a former executive vice president at Atlantic Records, to serve as their Chief Music Officer. This news was made public on Monday.
In a statement made on Monday, Suno revealed that Sinclair has been offering guidance to the company for several months. As the new Chief Marketing Officer, Sinclair will oversee the integration of Suno’s AI-driven tools into the song creation process. This aims to provide creators of all abilities with the means to make music, broaden their creative horizons, and foster unique interactions between artists and fans.
Mikey Shulman, CEO and co-founder of Suno, expressed great enthusiasm in a statement about Paul joining the team as Chief Music Officer. His distinct viewpoint on music and technology, coupled with his infectious optimism regarding the future of music, will prove indispensable as we venture into the next phase of our journey with Suno.
In the realm of music and entertainment, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a pivotal concern recently. Last week, an AI band named The Velvet Sundown garnered considerable attention, even trending on Spotify. However, this topic stirs intense debate – it’s criticized by both consumers and artists who disapprove of its use, while the industry grapples with copyright issues related to how AI generation services educate their models.
Last year, Suno and AI music generator Udio were both taken to court by major record labels due to accusations of extensive copyright violation. Although the lawsuit is yet to be resolved, it’s been reported recently that the parties involved are discussing potential licensing deals as a possible solution to the legal dispute.
Prior to his departure, Sinclair had been employed with Atlantic for approximately 17 years, starting in 2006 where he served as the head of innovation and digital strategy. He chose to part ways with the company towards the end of 2024, coinciding with broader changes at the renowned label following Elliot Grainge assuming leadership roles, as well as other long-standing executives like Julie Greenwald deciding to leave as well.
In a post on Instagram yesterday, Sinclair expressed that his career at the crossroads of music, technology, and artist development has led him to an exciting new venture. He finds Sonu’s technology remarkable, but what truly ignites his passion is the chance to influence how this technology is applied. His goal is to use it in a manner that empowers artists, songwriters, and producers of all skill levels, broadens creative possibilities, and forges fresh connections between music and fans.
Sinclair also penned that his latest position revolves around fostering a thriving musical environment which we contribute to.
