Aitraaz 2: Will Priyanka Chopra return to B'wood with sequel of 2004 film co-starring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor? Subhash Ghai REVEALS

As a die-hard fan who has watched Aitraaz countless times and still finds myself in awe of Priyanka Chopra’s mesmerizing portrayal of the antagonist, I must admit that the news about the sequel leaves me with mixed feelings. While it’s exciting to see a new generation of actors breathe life into this classic story, it feels a bit like betrayal to think of Aitraaz without Priyanka Chopra.

Ever since Subhash Ghai announced his plans for a sequel to Aitraaz from 2004, fans have been eagerly anticipating more information. Not too long ago, the director revealed that they aim to create this film after 20 years with a fresh cast of young actors, implying that Priyanka Chopra may not reprise her lead role in the sequel.

In an open chat with DNA during the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, director Subhash Ghai clarified that Aitraaz was launched 20 years ago and has passed since then. Consequently, Priyanka Chopra won’t be part of the sequel. Instead, a fresh ensemble of young actors will headline the movie, with an updated plot.

20 years have passed since the release of “Aitraaz”. Now, we need to remake it featuring today’s contemporary artists and actors from the newer generation. – said Ghai.

Although he shared his plan for the upcoming sequel, he acknowledged that significant details about the movie are still undecided. In a recent conversation with Hindustan Times, the director of Taal confessed that he received a promising script from Amit Rai, who is known for writing and directing the film Oh My God 2, starring Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi.

Additionally, he mentioned that various studios had reached out to him, expressing their desire to work together on a film project. Consequently, they’re eager to begin production shortly.

In about 3 to 4 months, we’ll finalize the story and cast. After that, we’ll officially announce it thoroughly.

2004 saw the release of Aitraaz, a romantic thriller that Abbas-Mustan directed. This movie explored the theme of gender acceptance and featured Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, and Priyanka Chopra in prominent roles. Notably, Priyanka’s portrayal of an intense antagonist garnered widespread acclaim.
