Ajay Devgn led actioner Singham Again postponed in Singapore after facing trouble from censor board? Here's what we know

As a seasoned cinema enthusiast who has traversed the vibrant landscape of Bollywood for decades, I must say that the news of Singham Again facing hurdles in Singapore and Saudi Arabia is not entirely surprising. The intricacies of film censorship across nations can sometimes feel like an elaborate game of chess, with each move carefully calculated to ensure cultural sensitivity without compromising artistic freedom.

Rohit Shetty’s directorial, “Singham Returns,” featuring Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor Khan, is set to return to cinemas on November 1, 2024. This much-awaited film takes its cues from the Hindu epic, Ramayana. However, recent reports suggest that Singham Again has been prohibited in Saudi Arabia, and now there are whispers that the film’s release in Singapore may have been delayed due to complications with the Censor Board.

According to recent reports by Bollywood Hungama, the release date for “Singham Again” has been shifted to November 7, 2024. This change is due to the fact that the Censor Board’s approval process took longer than expected, causing a delay in the premiere of Ajay and Kareena’s film.

As per the report, the source mentioned that the Singapore Censor Board is notably thorough and careful when it comes to film releases, often causing difficulties for many films in the process. The source added that this has been observed in previous instances as well.

On October 30, 2024, it was TopMob’s exclusive announcement that the film “Singham Again,” starring Ajay Devgn, had been prohibited in Saudi Arabia due to its depiction of ‘religious discord.’ The movie “Singham Again” is set to compete with “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3” at the box office on November 1.

In the upcoming horror comedy directed by Anees Bazmee, Kartik Aaryan takes on the lead role as Rooh Baba. However, this movie has been prohibited in Arab countries due to explicit homosexual references that have caused it to be banned by the Saudi government. Alongside Kartik, Triptii Dimri plays his romantic interest. Notable actresses Madhuri Dixit and Vidya Balan are also part of the cast, playing significant roles in the film.

In the upcoming film “Singham Returns,” directed by Rohit Shetty, Ajay Devgn will once again play the character of DCP Bajirao Singham. Kareena Kapoor has been cast in the role of his screen wife, Avni Kamat, who is abducted and rescued by Bajirao.

In other words, Singham Again is a follow-up to the 2014 movie Singham Returns, where Ajay and Kareena took on leading roles. Rohit Shetty directs this production as well, with notable appearances by Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, and Jackie Shroff in significant parts. Arjun Kapoor assumes the role of an adversary within the film.
