As an ardent fan of Ashwini Dhir’s work, this heart-wrenching news has left me utterly devastated. The man behind iconic films like Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge and Son of Sardar has been dealt a blow no artist should ever have to endure – the loss of a beloved child.
Sadly, renowned filmmaker Ashwini Dhir, who created movies such as “Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge” and “Son of Sardar” featuring Ajay Devgn, experienced a heartbreaking event on November 23. His 18-year-old son, Jalaj Dhir, was involved in a car accident, resulting in his passing along with one of Jalaj’s friends.
Unfortunately, according to Free Press Journal, Ashwini Dhir’s 18-year-old son was involved in a car accident on the Western Express Highway in Vile Parle. This incident occurred as he and three friends were on a nighttime journey from Bandra towards Goregaon in another vehicle.
18-year-old Sahil Mendha was behind the wheel, apparently under the effect of alcohol, when the incident occurred. Approaching Sahara Star Hotel, Mendha seemed to have lost control over the vehicle, resulting in a collision with the barrier separating the service road and the northbound bridge.
Regrettably, Jalaj and Sarth Kaushik, two friends who were seated at the back, passed away due to their injuries following a hospital visit. Mendha, under suspicion, was apprehended after a statement from the fourth companion, Jedan Jimmy, who was in the vehicle. The authorities have sent Mendha’s blood samples for examination to verify if alcohol was present.
As reported by Jimmy, on the night of November 22, he along with Mendha paid a visit to Jalaj’s residence in Goregaon. During their stay, Mendha had two shots of vodka. Later, at approximately 3:30 am, they made the decision to go for a drive.
Following a short spell behind the wheel, Mendha assumed driving duties and sped up to between 120 and 150 kilometers per hour. Upon arriving at the Sahara Star Hotel, however, Mendha became disoriented and lost command over the vehicle, resulting in a tragic accident.
In the incident, both Jimmy and Mendha received only slight wounds, but Jalaj and Sarthak suffered severe injuries. With the help of two passersby, Jimmy quickly transported Jalaj to a trauma center in Jogeshwari East. Regrettably, Jalaj was subsequently moved to Kokilaben Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
In the wake of those distressing occurrences, Mendha escorted Sarthak to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra. There, they confirmed Sarthak’s death. Subsequently, Jimmy submitted a police report, resulting in Mendha’s apprehension.
