As a die-hard fan of Bollywood’s twists and turns, I must say, the story behind Barsaat (2005) is as intriguing as the movie itself! Who would have thought that Akshay Kumar walking out of the film would pave the way for Bobby Deol to step in?
The movie “Barsaat,” which featured Bobby Deol and Priyanka Chopra, was released in 2005 originally with Akshay Kumar as the main actor. However, director Suneel Darshan later disclosed that Akshay had to depart from the film after Twinkle Khanna left him. Eventually, Bobby Deol took over the role for the movie.
During a chat on Friday Talkies recently, Suneel Darshan discussed his 2005 movie, Barsaat. He mentioned that at first, Akshay Kumar was the main actor, but as production started, he encountered an unusual issue with his wife, Twinkle Khanna.
Initially, the seasoned director revealed that the movie was initially planned to feature Khiladi Kumar and Priyanka Chopra, with a single shooting schedule scheduled. But, just four days prior to the filming, he received a call from Akshay for a meeting, which made him feel uneasy.
It’s worth noting that, during his journey to meet the actor, Darshan received a call from Bobby Deol’s manager proposing a film collaboration, but asked him to hold on first. As it turned out, Akshay ended up leaving the project due to some mistakes, according to Darshan’s statement.
As a devoted admirer, I find myself compelled to share my perspective on recent speculations concerning Priyanka Chopra and Akshay Kumar. Given that Twinkle Khanna, my wife, is deeply immersed in our industry, she has always been well-aware of the rumors and happenings. Being an actress herself, she understands the nuances of showbiz, having worked alongside many prominent figures. Consequently, she was fully cognizant of every aspect surrounding our profession.
The experienced director made it clear that he didn’t blame Priyanka Chopra for the circumstances, as he believed she was acting in her best interests. He further emphasized that men should take on more responsibility in such situations.
During their discussion, Darshan mentioned that Akshay had agreed to work together on their upcoming film with him. As soon as the meeting ended, he reached out to Bobby’s representative and eventually joined the project.
In my commitment to the craft, I eagerly accepted the terms of a three-picture agreement with Mr. Deol, which stipulated that I would be unable to engage in any other projects during this time. True to form, I honored this condition without hesitation.
Interestingly, Bobby’s debut film was also titled Barsaat which was released in 1995.
