Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal was watched by ISRO scientists, chairman S. Somanath calls it an ‘entertaining movie’

As an ardent fan of both cinema and space exploration, witnessing the synergy between Mission Mangal and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has been nothing short of awe-inspiring. The film, under Jagan Shakti’s ambitious direction, not only captured the nation’s imagination but also resonated deeply with the scientists who made the Mars Orbiter Mission a reality.

Jagan Shakti’s Mission Mangal was a highly ambitious cinematic endeavor. Debuting on August 15th, 2019, this movie garnered numerous awards and proved to be an impressive financial hit. As audiences across India immersed themselves in the film’s storyline inspired by real-life ISRO scientists who participated in India’s pioneering Mars Orbiter Mission, the team at the Indian Space Research Organisation found themselves captivated by it as well.

A few days past, ISRO Chief Dr. S. Somanath engaged in a discussion with YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia on his channel, BeerBiceps. During their talk about extraterrestrials, Chandrayaan-3’s triumph, black holes, UFOs, and related topics, they also mentioned the movie “Mission Mangal” starring Akshay Kumar. When queried if the whole ISRO team had seen the dramatic film, the Indian space engineer affirmed that they did.

Dr. Somanath discussed the females working within the organization, saying, “Each and every one of them played a role in the Chandrayaan-3 program.” However, he jokingly added that despite many women contributing to this mission, there was no cooking happening in the control center, contrary to what movies might suggest.

Moving forward, he shared his thoughts that this film serves as a source of amusement. Consequently, we can refer to it as an “amusing flick”. Interestingly, he confessed that the crew skillfully depicted certain elements of life at ISRO within the movie.

The movie Mission Mangal had a fantastic debut and managed to earn over 100 crores within just five days after its release. Actress Taapsee Pannu, who featured in a minor role, shared her pride about being involved in such a successful film that boosted Akshay Kumar’s biggest box office opening of the year. She shared with us, “For myself as well, it represents a significant breakthrough. This is the largest breakthrough for all of us – Akshay, Vidya, me, Sonakshi, Nithya, Kirti, and Sharman. That’s what makes it unique and we are extremely proud of it.” Additionally, she noted, “Often people ask if a film with strong female characters or female leads requires an actor like Akshay Kumar. We can also claim that it was us women who gave Akshay his biggest box office success. We are honored to be part of this film that has opened so massively.”

The movie features a diverse group of actors including Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Nithya Menen, Kirti Kulhari, Sharman Joshi, Dalip Tahil, Sanjay Kapoor, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, as well as several other talented individuals.
