He never underestimates the physical strain his job entails, and taking on the role of Jack Reacher has amplified that intensity significantly for the third season of Amazon Prime Video’s Reacher. The first season of Reacher offered a brutal initiation into Lee Child’s mercenary character for those unacquainted with him, filled with intense clashes between Reacher and his enemies. This physical confrontation persisted in Season 2, and now Season 3 is gearing up to present some of the character’s most demanding battles – not just on-screen, but also behind the scenes.
During a pre-release chat about the upcoming episodes, Ritchson shared the physical challenges he faces during filming. He described instances of being thrown, hit hard, and pushed to the very edge of his endurance, as he explained to IGN Brazil.
If a scene involves me being propelled through furniture or walls multiple times, let me clarify that I often perform these stunts. It’s not a one-time occurrence; sometimes it requires repeating 8, 12, even 15 times. Each time, I can’t help but think, “I think I’ve cracked a rib.” or “My spine must be broken now.” Only to be asked to do it again and groan, “Ouch.” Ultimately, we hope the viewers enjoy the spectacle and feel they got their money’s worth from watching our hard work.
Alan Ritchson Has Found a Long-Term Character in Jack Reacher
Ritchson is accustomed to challenging roles, having starred in various action films and series. Yet, in the character of Jack Reacher, a former military drifter who can’t be stopped, he discovered a role that seemed tailor-made for him. Originating from Lee Child’s novels, Reacher has been an exceptional hit on Prime Video, and the actor has publicly expressed his desire to keep portraying Reacher as long as his body allows it.
It’s evident that playing such a role can be incredibly demanding on one’s physical health, but Ritchson is certainly rising to the challenge. His imposing build and well-toned physique make him a convincing embodiment of the character, who was previously played by Tom Cruise, with varying success.
Playing such demanding roles can be tough on a body, but Ritchson is more than holding his own. His impressive size and sculpted physique let him play the character convincingly, a role that Tom Cruise previously portrayed with mixed outcomes.
Get ready for the imminent arrival of Season 3 of Reacher, which has garnered much anticipation following the record-breaking debut of Season 2 in 2023. With the first season earning near-universal acclaim from both critics and viewers, there’s high hope that Season 3 will carry on the series’ momentum. Although Season 2 faced a slight drop in opinions, fans are optimistic that Season 3, based on the novel “Persuader,” will help steer the show back on course and pave an effortless path for Ritchson towards a fourth season.
Viewers can look forward to Ritchson reprising his role as Jack Reacher on February 20, marking the start of Season 3. The episode summary suggests that Reacher, in Maine, prevents the kidnapping of college student Richard Beck and later takes a job from Beck’s father, Zachary. This leads him into a realm populated by crooks, DEA agents, and an adversary from his own past.
