It’s undeniable that the fight scenes in the popular Reacher series on Prime Video are quite impressive. With swift action and Alan Ritchson consistently delivering powerful blows, one might ponder about his real-life capabilities. However, any doubts can be put to rest as he claims he would certainly know how to handle himself if necessary.
In an article for Wired, a question about Alan Ritchson’s combat abilities was posed due to his impressive height. While it might be assumed that someone so tall could fight, it’s important to remember that size doesn’t guarantee skill. But when it comes to Ritchson, who stands at 6’3″, he confidently affirmed, “Absolutely yes!
Absolutely, I have combat skills that are honed through extensive training comparable to someone seeking a black belt. It’s not entirely improvisational; there is a fair amount of choreography involved. I dedicate considerable time to prepare for a season or to embody a new character, and when it’s time to engage, I truly enjoy the experience.
In Season 3 of Reacher, Jack Ritchson is certainly kept busy. The series debuted on Prime Video on February 20 and has so far aired five out of its total eight episodes. This time, Ritchson’s character encounters someone even larger – Olivier Richters, also known as “The Dutch Giant.” Standing at an impressive 7 feet 3 inches tall, his character Paulie looms over Reacher. The physical confrontation between the two is brutal, with their massive physiques clashing, ultimately resulting in our hero emerging victorious.
Alan Ritchson Could Have Been An MMA Fighter
Reacher isn’t the only fighting role for Ritchson; he also played Shayne Blackwell, an ex-MMA fighter, in the 2019 film “Above the Shadows”. This required him to train extensively with his co-star and former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz. Intriguingly, Ortiz suggested to Ritchson that if acting didn’t work out, he could definitely pursue a career as a fighter due to his role portrayal. During an interview with Wired, Ritchson shared: “I played a UFC fighter, so I spent months training for the role.
I prepared myself to collaborate with Tito, who turned out to be an excellent instructor. We practiced together for around two months before we made this movie together. During filming, he unexpectedly complimented me, saying I could have been a fighter if I wanted to pursue that career in UFC. I was pleased by his words. By accident, I once hit him in the forehead.
In Season 3 of Reacher, currently streaming on Prime Video, you can witness Ritchson delivering impressive performances. The initial five episodes are already accessible, with the final three being released weekly until the series wraps up on March 27th. If you haven’t caught up yet, don’t forget that Seasons 1 and 2 are also available for your convenience to watch whenever suits you best.
