Alec Baldwin’s New Reality Show Trailer Reveals Heartbreaking ‘Rust’ Tragedy

If you were under the impression that “The Baldwins” reality TV show, featuring Alec Baldwin, his wife Hilaria Baldwin, and their seven kids, would be all about light-hearted fun related to parenting, you might want to reconsider. In a recently released trailer for this TLC series, a reference to the unfortunate incident involving cinematographer Halyna Hutchins’ death on the set of Alec’s film “Rust” in 2021 is brought up halfway through the one-minute preview (as shown below).

According to Hilaria, she shares that her son experienced an unfathomable loss. This heart-wrenching event serves as a constant reminder, and they are learning to navigate their journey as parents in the aftermath of this tragedy, on the set of Rust in New Mexico. (Andros being referred to as Hutchins’s young son)

In a heartfelt moment captured over scenes showing him hiding his face, Alec expresses, “To be truly honest, I can’t imagine my life without Hilaria and our children, for they are my anchor.” Additionally, there’s a glimpse of Alec walking into what seems to be a counselor’s office.

It appears we don’t have much information about the Rust shooting, but considering its significant appearance in the trailer, it seems probable that The Baldwin family will still be addressing this incident. As per TLC (via Variety), their season premiere focuses on celebrating their eldest son Rafael’s ninth birthday and a family vacation to East Hampton.

However, amidst the joyous occasion, there’s a lingering sense of apprehension since Alec is due for trial. Simultaneously, Alec and Hilaria are dealing with the intricate emotions that arise, ensuring they maintain some semblance of normality in their children’s lives during this period.

It’s unclear how much focus will be on the accidental shooting, but considering that Baldwin has recently filed a civil lawsuit against those trying to charge him with manslaughter, it appears the incident will likely remain a topic as the series progresses, so long as filming continues.

The Baldwins will premiere on TLC on February 23rd, with next day streaming on Max.

The Future of ‘Rust’ is Uncertain at the Moment

As a dedicated cinephile, I must share that while the international rights have been locked down, the movie titled “Rust” is still on the hunt for a domestic distributor due to its contentious theme. This film made its grand debut at the Cameraimage Festival in Poland back in November 2024, but since then, it hasn’t graced any other festival screens or had any further showings.

Olga Solovey, mother of Alexandra Hutchins, openly criticized the premiere at Camerimage, stating it was an attempt to exploit her daughter’s demise financially. The family, led by attorney Gloria Allred, have a pending lawsuit against Alec Baldwin. A separate claim filed by Hutchins’s husband Matthew was privately resolved, with profits from the movie going to Matthew and their son Andros. However, as the film Rust has yet to secure a distributor, no earnings can be generated from it at this time.

Stay tuned for more updates on Rust as they become available.
