I am beyond excited about the appointment of Alejandra Santamaria as the new president and CEO of Southern California Public Radio (SCPR)! Born and raised in Los Angeles, Santamaria brings a deep connection to the community and a wealth of experience in media and leadership. Her extensive background at Univision, where she served various roles including interim president, general manager, VP, and director of sales for their L.A. stations, is truly impressive.
Southern California Public Radio has a new president and CEO: Alejandra Santamaria.
A new leader has been chosen for SCPR, taking over from Herb Scannell who announced his retirement last fall. The appointment was endorsed by SCPR’s board of trustees. This individual previously held key positions at Univision Los Angeles such as interim president, general manager, and director of sales.
I strongly support Drew Murphy’s suggestion that Alex is the perfect fit to lead SCPR into the future. Los Angeles’ public radio scene is a vital and essential part of our media landscape, and I have faith in Alex’s abilities to guide us through current challenges while keeping us financially sound. Her experience and talent are exactly what we need to fulfill our mission and continue being an indispensable resource for our community.
Santamaria, a native of Los Angeles, expressed her excitement about heading one of the top community-focused organizations.
She shared that her professional journey has been connected to a media company close to her heart due to their commitment to empowering, educating, and informing the Latino community, including her own family. Eager to contribute her abilities and enthusiasm, she is now prepared to join LAist. The caliber of reporting at LAist is exceptional, and it’s our responsibility to amplify such excellent work while remaining a valuable resource for Angelenos.
At Univision, Santamaria oversaw sales and management for KMEX, UniMas KFTR, KLVE-FM, KSCA-FM, KRCD/V-FM, and KTNQ-AM radio stations, in addition to a collection of digital platforms in the L.A. market. She held the position of president and general manager for Univision Arizona, where she managed station operations, sales strategies, and digital marketing campaigns. Santamaria is an original member of Univision’s Women’s Leadership Council (WLC), a staff organization. Most recently, she sat on the boards of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce and the L.A. County Economic Development Corporation.
