Alex Garland to Direct a Live-Action Elden Ring Film at A24

24 Studios and Bandai Namco Entertainment have unveiled plans for Alex Garland to pen and direct a dynamic live-action rendition of Elden Ring. Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, Allon Reich, George R.R. Martin, and Vince Gerardis will serve as the production team behind this project.

Alex Garland has a diverse background in filmmaking, having previously worked on science fiction films like “Ex Machina” and “Annihilation”, as well as darker, more grounded movies such as “Men” and “Civil War”. His latest project is “Warfare”, a film delving into the complexities of the Iraq War. He is also penning the script for an upcoming movie titled “28 Years Later”.

Apart from “Death Stranding,” A24 also has other video game adaptations in the works, as the production company behind movies like “Everything, Everywhere, All At Once,” “The Lighthouse,” “Midsommar,” and “Talk to Me” is set to produce a film based on “Death Stranding.” Michael Sarnoski will direct this movie, with Hideo Kojima taking on the role of producer.

In a recent announcement, it’s been revealed that Elden Ring, developed by Bandai Namco and FromSoftware, has now sold over 30 million copies globally. Approximately five million of these sales were made since the last update on Elden Ring sales in June 2024, with the game having initially been released in 2022.

The growth of sales is expected to persist when Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition hits Nintendo Switch 2 in the year 2025. This special edition, titled Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, will contain both the original game and the expansion pack Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree as a single package. Additionally, this version offers exclusive armor and customization options for Torrent’s appearance.

In the upcoming sequel titled “Elden Ring: Nightreign,” set to launch on May 30th, gamers can enjoy it across various platforms such as PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Pre-orders for “Elden Ring: Nightreign” are currently being taken at the Bandai Namco Entertainment Store, select retailers, and online marketplaces.
