Alia Bhatt locked herself in room when Inshallah was shelved reveals Sanjay Leela Bhansali; ‘She broke down’

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for Hollywood-Bollywood dynamics and the ability to dissect the intricacies of an actor’s journey, I find Alia Bhatt’s transformation from a heartbroken actress to the powerhouse performer she is today nothing short of extraordinary. Her life experience, marked by the rollercoaster ride that was Inshallah, has been a testament to her resilience and adaptability as an artist.

A few years past, Alia Bhatt and Salman Khan had been set to act together in Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s film titled “Inshallah.” Regrettably, this movie never materialized, leaving many film enthusiasts disappointed at the prospect of missing their on-screen pairing. Not only the fans were disheartened by the news, but as per SLB, the acclaimed actor was so distraught that she chose to isolate herself in a private space.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Sanjay Leela Bhansali shared his thoughts on discovering authenticity in actors as individuals when they work with him. This was particularly relevant when he was working on the movie Inshallah with Alia Bhatt, before it was unfortunately cancelled. “She became emotional, she lost control, cried, vented her feelings, shouted, locked herself away,” the director explained about Alia’s response to the project’s cancellation.

A week afterward, he phoned her and expressed that she would be portraying the leading actress in his epic production, Gangubai Kathiawadi. At first, Bhatt was uncertain if she could handle the role. The Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani actress confessed to him, “I had been scheduled to play this character in LA, but I came to Kamathipura instead. How am I doing? I’m unsure about this character.” It was then that the Padmaavat director reassured her, asking her to have faith in him. He then fulfilled his role as a director by delving into her essence to bring forth what he desired for the character in the award-winning movie.

After a short while, Alia Bhatt immersed herself in portraying Gangubai, becoming one with the role. As per director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the actress became so deeply involved that she still occasionally speaks like her character. “It has become such an integral part of me and it’s so captivating,” he commented. With this in mind, Alia Bhatt and Bhansali are ready to collaborate once more in their upcoming film Love And War, which also features Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.

Speaking with the same media outlet, the director shared his commitment to pouring his utmost effort into both the movie and its cast, as this project is significant and challenging. For those unaware, the highly anticipated love story involving three characters is slated for a cinema release in March 2026.
