Recently, Alia Bhatt shared a video on her Instagram stories announcing Payal Kapadia as one of the nominees for Best Director in a Motion Picture at the 2025 Golden Globes. Just like many others, Bhatt expressed delight seeing Kapadia earn India and Indian cinema such pride and recognition.

So, she said, “The history belongs to you,” and added a reference to Payal and the film All We Imagine as if it were related.

payal’s film has been recognized in two categories: Best Director (Motion Picture) and Best Non-English Language Motion Picture at the Golden Globes. When the nominations were revealed on December 9, 2024, Payal and her crew erupted with excitement.

At the 77th Cannes Film Festival on May 23, 2024, the film “All We Imagine As Light” made its debut. This movie went on to win the Grand Prix in the prestigious event. Since it’s a co-production between French, Indian, Dutch, Luxembourgish, and Italian companies, France submitted Payal’s movie for consideration as the country’s entry in the Best International Feature Film category at the 97th Academy Awards.

Additionally, the movie was written by Payal and features Divya Prabha, Kani Kusruti, Hridhu Haroon, Chhaya Kadam, Azees Nedumangad, Anand Sami, among others as its stars.
