Alien: Romulus Director Shares Creepy Behind the Scenes Clip of the Final Monster

As a longtime fan of the Alien franchise, I must say that Fede Álvarez’s directorial work in Alien: Romulus has undeniably left me awestruck and thoroughly impressed. The behind-the-scenes glimpse into the creation of “The Offspring” monster serves as a testament to the sheer dedication and mastery of craft that went into making this film.

Director Fede Álvarez, known for crafting one of this year’s top horror films, “Alien: Romulus“, has shared a sneak peek on social media about the creation process of the film’s chilling final monster. Weeks after its release, the latest addition to the Alien series is still generating buzz among movie enthusiasts, with Álvarez’s masterful combination of cutting-edge visual effects and practical resources being a key reason for its acclaim within the cherished franchise. This behind-the-scenes glimpse offers another example of this technique.

Álvarez unveils the identity of the actor hidden beneath the monster that confronts Rain in the third act through a behind-the-scenes video he shared on his Twitter account. The tweet reads: “Robert Bobroczkyi, an incredibly gifted individual, preparing to pursue Cailee Spaeny in #alienromulus @LegacyEffects #bts.” Previously a Romanian basketball player with an impressive height of 2.31 meters (7 ft 7 in), Bobroczkyi took on the role of the creature now known as “The Offspring” in the film. Álvarez acknowledges Legacy Effects, a company renowned for their animatronic effects work in the MCU, Pacific Rim, and Avatar, among others. You can watch the clip below to get a sneak peek:

It’s evident that The Offspring is not a Xenomorph, yet its portrayal in the movie was undeniably one of the most daring aspects. In the storyline, survivor Kay, who is pregnant, uses an unknown substance to aid her wound recovery. However, this decision has dire consequences for her unborn child. The baby mutates into a grotesque creature that’s a mix of Xenomorph, human, and Engineer, which later becomes a formidable opponent for Rain in her struggle to escape alive. Judging from the making-of footage, the Offspring was as chilling on set as it appeared on screen.

Alien: Romulus is a Solid Return to the Franchise’s Roots

In the story titled “Alien: Romulus,” the space colonists are making an attempt to flee from the planet where they’re stationed. They serve as expendable labor for Weyland-Yutani, the corporation that controls space exploration. However, Rain and her adopted android brother, Andy, receive a chance to depart for a more desirable destination: planet Yvaga, which can be reached using the cryostasis pods left behind in an abandoned spaceship. Upon reaching the derelict vessel, they swiftly understand why it was deserted.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’d like to share my excitement for “The Predator,” a film masterfully directed by Fede Álvarez and co-written with Rodo Sayagues. This thrilling adventure stars a talented young ensemble including Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Spike Fearn, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, and Robert Bobroczkyi, to name a few. It’s the ninth installment of the Alien franchise, and it bridges the gap between the original 1979 film, Alien, and its sequel, Aliens (1986).
