Alien: Romulus release leads to Isolation 2 ‘leaks', but we're not convinced

As a die-hard Alien fan with over three decades of unwavering loyalty to this terrifying franchise, I’ve seen more than my fair share of ups and downs. From the iconic 1979 original to the recent, lacklustre Colonial Marines, it’s been a rollercoaster ride that’s tested even the most steadfast fans like myself.

Deep within Reddit, there’s no one around to listen as you shout about fear. When it comes to horror series milking their franchises with underwhelming video games, few have matched the Alien series in this regard. While the live-action movies have had their ups and downs since Ridley Scott’s 1979 debut, the quality of its video game adaptations is a whole different story.

As a gamer, I’ve been on a rollercoaster ride with the Xenomorphs, from their Pac-Man-esque debut on the Atari 2600 in ’82 to the chaotic Colonial Marines fiasco. They’ve shown up in Mortal Kombat and Dead by Daylight, but it seemed nearly impossible to create a ‘good’ Alien video game…that is, until Alien: Isolation came along.

Alien: Isolation 2 ‘leaked’ – but don’t get your hopes up

Leak Alert: Alien Isolation 2 & More Incoming!

As a dedicated gamer, I can confidently say that Creative Assembly’s Alien: Isolation stands tall among the elite, including Aliens: Infestation, in the realm of Alien-themed games. It delivered an engrossing narrative and brought Ellen Ripley’s daughter, from Aliens, back to the forefront. Indeed, it’s no surprise that Isolation is fondly remembered as one of the most terrifying video games ever made. However, I can’t help but wonder, where is the sequel?

Experiencing Resident Evil 7 in virtual reality is not the only game that will send shivers down your spine; Alien: Isolation is another one. In this game, you find yourself maneuvering through the tight corridors of Sevastopol station, with minimal firepower and relying on your intelligence to evade the relentless Xeno. The DLCs for this game were exceptional, although sales did not meet expectations, Creative Assembly had once considered a sequel.

Despite Creative Assembly shifting their focus towards the project HYENAS and the multiple layoffs suggesting an Isolation sequel may be improbable, a post on the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit has caught our attention. Let me clarify that while there’s no verified source, it’s based on someone who claims they conversed with a former Creative Assembly developer.

As a passionate fan, I can’t help but share some exciting rumors that have been circulating recently. According to an alleged leak, it seems the developers have been working on Isolation 2 for three years now. This sequel is said to carry on Amanda Ripley’s story, apparently disregarding the events depicted in D3 Go’s Alien: Blackout mobile game. It’s not just this bit of news that has fans buzzing; there have been a host of other supposed Alien leaks making the rounds as well!

The discussion suggests that it won’t be long before they officially announce a video game connected to Fede Álvarez’s Alien: Romulus project, which seems to draw heavily from Isolation. There are rumors about a VR version and remastered edition of Isolation in the works, but these aren’t being handled by Creative Assembly. All of this could potentially be unveiled at Gamescom.

According to the source, the remastered version of “Isolation” is expected to be released next year for its 10th anniversary, the VR game in 2025 to prevent conflicts with Survios’ “Alien: Rogue Incursion”, which launches this year, and the sequel to “Isolation” in 2026. However, many have cast doubt on these claims since the original post was met with skepticism by critics.

“Anyone keeping a close eye on Creative Assembly for the past two years might find this hard to accept, as they’ve certainly encountered some challenges. To put it mildly.” Some also noted that even if Creative Assembly was developing a sequel, they would not possess insights about the projects of other developers.

In simpler terms, “If something seems too good to be true, it often isn’t.” The unexpected shift from our disappointments with Isolation 2 to an abundance of information about the IP feels strange. Regrettably, this situation appears to be someone capitalizing on the excitement surrounding Romulus.
