As a seasoned VALORANT player with countless hours under my belt, I must say I appreciate Riot’s approach to the competitive map rotation. Having played on every single map since its inception, I can vouch for the fact that the current seven-map pool offers just the right balance of variety and mastery.
Starting from July, Riot Games updated the competitive map selection for VALORANT, limiting the choices to only seven maps moving forward. Here is the list of all the available maps.
All maps in the competitive rotation
Here are the seven that are currently in the competitive map pool:
- Abyss
- Ascent
- Bind
- Haven
- Icebox
- Lotus
- Sunset
In approximately two months, according to Riot’s confirmation, the maps Icebox and Lotus will be replaced by Pearl and Split in patch 9.08.
In VALORANT, a total of 11 maps are currently available, with Breeze and Fracture temporarily absent from the game. We’re unsure when these two maps will reappear in the map rotation. Specifically, Breeze was taken out during the last change, while Fracture has been on hold since August 2023.
Since 2022, the competitive playlist pool has been limited to only seven maps, as described by Lead Map Designer Joe Lansford as the “optimal balance between diversity and expertise“.
He also explained it as a specific choice for the “onboarding experience” as players don’t need to spend ages “learning new angles, lineups, and strategies.”
