As a thrilled fan, I’ll be honored to witness Amalia Ulman’s “Magic Farm” taking root as the grand opening screening for the second installment of the Los Angeles Festival of Movies (LAFM). This captivating event, brought to you by MUBI and Mezzanine, is set to bloom from April 3-6. The festival promises a rich program consisting of over 20 feature films, a meticulously curated collection of shorts, an exciting inaugural animation program, and enlightening artist talks. I can hardly wait!
The film titled “Magic Farm,” which made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival last month, will kick off the festival at Vidiots’ Eagle Theatre on April 3. Written and directed by Ulman, this movie stars Chloë Sevigny, Simon Rex, and Alex Wolff in a tale about a film team from a daring media company who journey to Argentina to cover a local musician. In her review for The Hollywood Reporter, critic Sheri Linden praised the film, stating that “Magic Farm” showcases an exceptional cast perfectly aligned with Ulman’s dry humor and oddity.
