Amanda Seyfried Drops F-Bomb Defending Nepo Babies From The Haters

While it’s natural for many of us to desire a smoother path in life (in certain aspects), it’s also clear that success and joy are never assured, though having an advantage can certainly appear beneficial. This is one reason why the so-called nepo babies often face criticism.

Interestingly, actress Amanda Seyfried, who stars in the upcoming movie adaptation of “The Housemaid” scheduled for release in December 2025, recently used a strong profanity to defend the concept of nepotism in Hollywood’s film industry.

Why Did Amanda Seyfried Drop An F-Bomb To Defend Nepo Babies?

Despite the Great Nepotism Debate in pop culture cooling down, there remains controversy over whether individuals who follow in their family’s footsteps in the same profession gain an unjust advantage compared to others. This seems especially contentious when nepotism is perceived within celebrity families, and figures such as Jamie Lee Curtis (who views the discussion as “designed to try to diminish and denigrate and hurt”) and Angelina Jolie (who is a nepo baby and has her own nepo babies) have expressed their thoughts on the subject.

Mamma Mia’s Amanda Seyfried (who’d love to make the musical franchise a trilogy) isn’t a nepo baby, but that doesn’t mean she’s cool with tearing them down, either. During an interview with eTalk for CTV in Canada, the conversation turned to whether or not the Mean Girls talent (who reprised Karen for some commercials) would let her daughter play that role in one of her own movies one day, and she responded:

I’d be more than happy to help her, but then I find myself thinking, “Nah, she needs to prove herself first.”…Oh, I was just joking. However, it’s important to note that nepotism isn’t all bad. We should stop associating them with negativity. It’s not their fault! Ultimately, talent and hard work will shine through. If you’re not skilled, you won’t succeed.

Indeed, Essentially, Seyfried concurred with her interviewer and expressed that she wouldn’t have objected to receiving a “nepotism baby”-like advantage in her acting career. However, she made it clear that she’s prepared to audition repeatedly for roles she desires, like the part of Glinda in Wicked. Moreover, she mentioned that if her own children decide to pursue entertainment, she would extend a helping hand. Nevertheless, she doesn’t seem to believe that success in this field is guaranteed or effortless.

In a sense similar to Zosia Mamet, whose renowned surname might have granted her certain opportunities, I find myself entering auditions with an extra load – the ‘baggage’ of expectations, perhaps. As Zosia rightly notes, without genuine talent and consistent effort to prove oneself, even a notable name can only take you so far. It’s all about consistently working hard to secure and maintain your place.

Frankly, regardless of your perspective, nepotism seems unlikely to disappear anytime soon. Therefore, it might be wiser to simply expect the individuals who’ve benefited from nepotism in your circle to be competent and diligent, and focus on advancing your own endeavors.
