Amazon CEO “Incredibly Relieved” After Employee’s Release From Being Held Hostage Since Oct. 7 Attacks

Amazon Chief Executive Officer, Andy Jassy, has made a statement concerning an employee who was recently released after being held captive since the October 7, 2023 incidents in Israel.

In a communication to Amazon staff over the weekend, Jassy expressed his immense relief upon learning about Alexander (Sasha) Troufanov’s safe release from captivity. Prior to his abduction, which occurred during the fatal October 7 attacks, Troufanov was an electrical engineer at Amazon Web Services based in Tel Aviv labs.

On October 7, 2023, Sasha, his mother, grandmother, and girlfriend were kidnapped. Regrettably, during this incident, Sasha’s father was killed. Fortunately, they were all released in November 2023. Since we first heard about their abduction, a team has been working tirelessly behind the scenes with experts to help secure their release and prioritize their safety. This included making difficult decisions, such as remaining silent publicly for fear that our comments might negatively impact their chances of being released or their treatment while in captivity.

For the first time, Jassy openly responded to criticisms concerning the company’s silence, with many suspecting during that period that the company intentionally stayed out of the public discourse to safeguard its reputation.

I’ve found these past times incredibly challenging for anyone connected to Sasha, filled with worry and a sense of impotence. Yet, nothing compares to the struggles that Sasha and his family have faced. We remain steadfast in our support, committed to helping them through their healing process in any way we can.

Jassy concluded his message by thanking those who “tirelessly advocated for his safe return.”

He expressed his shared feelings of gratitude and relief, as Sasha and the other captives were freed today. My sympathies are with all those affected by this war, and I remain optimistic that we’ll find a lasting path towards peace.

After the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas on January 19, Troufanov was subsequently released. Earlier, as reported by PBS, a total of 21 hostages and more than 730 Palestinian prisoners were freed during the initial phase of the truce before Saturday.
