Amazon MGM, Scott Stuber in Talks to Adapt Evan Gershkovich Memoir with ‘Conclave’ Director Edward Berger

Scott Stuber and Amazon MGM are considering developing a movie based on the tale of Evan Gershkovich, a reporter from the Wall Street Journal who was detained for more than a year in Russia under false accusations of spying.

As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to hear that the studio and Stuber’s United Artist banner are in talks about acquiring the rights for Gershkovich’s upcoming memoir! If the rumors are true, it sounds like Oscar nominee Edward Berger might be directing this film. This potential collaboration has me excited about what could be a fantastic adaptation of such an intriguing story!

If the deal goes through, Gershkovich will serve as executive producer alongside The Wall Street Journal and Ella Milman, who is Gershkovich’s mother. Milman’s book proposal is included in the rights acquisition for this project.

Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt are set to produce a film for United Artists, joined by Amy Pascal who has recently collaborated with the studio on the project titled “Challengers“.

David Weil, known for his work on the TV series ‘Citadel’ and ‘Hunters’, is being considered for adapting a memoir that is set to be published by the Crown imprint of Penguin Random House in the upcoming year.

Berger was nominated for an Oscar in the category of war dramas with All Quiet on the Western Front, and his latest production, Conclave, has also garnered him awards consideration.

Last year, Stuber assumed leadership at United Artists, having previously stepped down as Netflix’s head of film. Their upcoming projects include an adaptation of the novel “Kill Your Darlings,” featuring Julia Roberts, and a holiday comedy titled “Christmas in Paradise” starring Nate Bargatze.
