Fans of detective work from their armchairs will soon have another brain-teaser to solve, as Amazon MGM Studios is transforming a part of G.T. Karber’s Murdle book collection into a television series. As reported by Deadline, Amazon is partnering with Legendary Television and Pacesetter to convert this popular murder mystery sensation into a show for Prime Video. The creator of the book series and its companion website, G.T. Karber himself, will be involved as an executive producer alongside Jon Croker, Jessica Rhoades, and Alison Mo Massey.
Known primarily for his works on “Paddington” and “Paddington 2”, along with the Academy Award-winning short film “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse”, Croker is currently working on the script for a new adaptation titled “Murdle”. This upcoming project is being characterized as a peculiar, dialogue-driven series that bears resemblance to films like “Knives Out” and “The Gentlemen”. It revolves around two adversarial members of a London detective club who are compelled to collaborate despite their distinct methods in unraveling mysteries. As such, it’s reasonable to anticipate that their investigation may lead to more bickering than solving.
Karber’s set of five murder mystery puzzle books was published, with the first volume launched in June 2023 and reaching the top spot on the Sunday Times bestseller list. This initial book also earned two awards at the 2024 British Book Awards, being named “Overall Book of the Year” and “Best Nonfiction Book.” The series, which has since expanded with spinoffs, immerses puzzle enthusiasts in solving murder mysteries, working alongside a character named Deductive Logico who, as you might infer, solves crimes by applying deduction and logic to uncover who committed the crime, how, where, and why.
