Ameesha Patel reacts to Anil Sharma's comment on her refusal to play MIL on-screen, 'will never play mother-in-law for gadar or any other film even if paid 100 crores'

As a lifestyle expert with a rich background in the entertainment industry, I admire Ameesha Patel‘s unwavering conviction and respect for her personal boundaries. Her decision to decline playing a mother-in-law role, even for the iconic Gadar franchise or a staggering amount like 1000 crores, is commendable. It shows her dedication to preserving the image of her character that fans have come to love and appreciate over the years.

In her unforgettable portrayal of Sakina in the legendary Gadar series, Ameesha Patel has carved out a unique and cherished spot among fans. Not long ago, the film’s director, Anil Sharma, disclosed that Ameesha initially hesitated to play a screen grandmother, instead advocating for her character’s development. Recently, Ameesha herself addressed this matter and firmly stated that she would decline any offer to portray a mother-in-law on-screen, regardless of the staggering sum of 1000 crores being offered.

Recently, Anil Sharma, director of Gardar 2, held an interview with Siddharth Kannan where they talked about his disagreements with Ameesha Patel. During this conversation, he pointed out that Ameesha was hesitant to portray the role of a mother-in-law on screen. He used Nargis Dutt as an example, who played a mother at a young age in Mother India, and advised Ameesha to take up such challenging roles and accept character development.

After posting a screenshot of TopMob’s article about it on social media platform X (previously known as Twitter), Ameesha Patel expressed disagreement with his perspective and posted a series of messages. She made clear that she sets limits on the types of roles she accepts and has no intention to portray a mother-in-law character on screen, even if offered a payment of Rs.1000 for it.

Hey there, @Anilsharma_dir Anilji! Just wanted to say, I deeply appreciate your work and hold it close to my heart. However, let me clarify that while a film may not reflect the reality of someone’s family, as an actor, I have creative control over the roles I choose to play. That being said, I would never accept the role of a mother-in-law in Gadar or any other movie, no matter how lucrative the offer might be.

Take a look:

In my expert opinion, it’s crucial to understand the audience’s expectations when dealing with beloved characters like Tara (portrayed by Sunny Deol) from the Gardar franchise. The fans aren’t yearning for Tara to be cast as an in-law; instead, they adore him as a hero and a superhero, and that’s what they want to see more of. As put by director Anil Sharma, “Fans don’t want to see their beloved Tara as a father-in-law or mother-in-law; they want him to continue being the hero and superhero they know and cherish.

Although she did not agree with the filmmaker’s views, she expressed her respect for him and wished him all the best for his newly released film, Vanvaas, which stars Nana Patekar, Simrat Kaur, and Utkarsh Sharma in key roles.
