As a seasoned gamer and film enthusiast who has attended numerous industry events over the years, I must admit that the announcement of the American Film Market (AFM) relocating to the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas for its 45th edition has left me both intrigued and skeptical.
The American Film Market has announced the initial list of exhibitors for its debut event in Las Vegas, scheduled from November 5 to 10, 2024.
Approximately 145 film and television companies have announced their participation in the new location at the Palms Casino Resort for the American Film Market (AFM), with notable names such as Lionsgate, A24, Neon, Voltage Pictures, AGC Studios, Black Bear Pictures, Altitude Film Sales, Protagonist Pictures, WME Independent, and XYZ Films among them.
For the 45th edition, the Palms Casino Resort introduces a new business center, attracting film buyers and sellers who have recently relocated from Los Angeles and their former long-standing headquarters at The Loews in Santa Monica.
The majority of significant Hollywood studios and streaming platforms have not announced their participation in the 2024 event as of the most recent IFTA update revealed on Monday. However, some international film production and promotion entities such as Gaumont, HanWay Films, Pathé Films, Trust Nordisk, Studiocanal, CJ ENM, and Unifrance have confirmed their involvement.
In The Palms Fantasy Tower, the assigned central station will welcome international trade groups, film offices, and country pavilions from 25 different nations based on AFM’s plans. This Las Vegas venue provides exhibitors with office quarters and a spacious 170,000 square foot area for conferences, meetings, and events.
I’ll be heading to The Palms’ Brenden Theatres for the AFM screenings since that’s where they’re being held. Companies like Anton, Film Mode Entertainment, Highland Film Group, Embankment Films, The Match Factory, and Myriad are also making their way to Las Vegas for this event.
In 2023, the AFM (American Film Market) occurred at the Le Meridien Delfina in Santa Monica instead of at The Loews, which had previously been its well-known seaside home and longtime venue for the event.
