As a devoted admirer of the timeless charm that is Meenakshi Seshadri, I find myself utterly captivated by her insights into the intricacies of the Indian film industry. Her journey from the silver screen to the sun-kissed shores of America and back again, after a long hiatus, is nothing short of awe-inspiring.

As a devoted admirer, I’d like to highlight my esteemed colleague from the ’80s and ’90s, the illustrious actress Meenakshi Seshadri, who was celebrated for her versatility. She worked alongside some of the era’s biggest stars, such as Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Shatrughan Sinha, Jackie Shroff, Rajesh Khanna, and Vinod Khanna. In a recent conversation, she shed light on why actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, and Jeetendra are still active in the industry even in their later years. She pointed out that unlike female actors, they don’t have to grapple with issues related to childbirth, pregnancy, or child-rearing responsibilities. In her words, “They don’t have to concern themselves with matters like childbirth, pregnancy, or raising children.”

For those not familiar, in the year 1996, Meenakshi Seshadri chose to leave acting behind to prioritize her personal life and relocated to the United States. Currently, at the age of 60, she is preparing for a return to the film industry.

In her conversation with Lehren Retro, Seshadri delved into the factors contributing to the prolonged careers of male actors. She pointed out that unlike their female peers, male stars usually avoid household chores, thereby dedicating all their time and energy to their acting professions. Moreover, they are spared difficulties like childbirth, pregnancy, and parenting, duties often shouldered by women. According to Seshadri, these aspects could be the key reasons behind the continued success of actors such as Dharmendra, Jeetendra, and Amitabh Bachchan in the film industry. Furthermore, she emphasized that the enduring admiration for these actors plays a significant role.

After a 27-year break from acting, Meenakshi Seshadri is gearing up to make a comeback. In a chat with ETimes, the actress who’s now 60 years old, has shown interest in knowing what roles might be presented to her. She hinted that modern movie makers would probably want to grasp her current character and creative style before writing a script tailored for her.
