Amitabh Bachchan was made to play mute character in Sunil Dutt’s film as he ‘hated’ former's voice, reveals Sheeba: ‘Kaisi si awaaz hai iske, gunjti hui’

As an ardent admirer of the illustrious career of Amitabh Bachchan, I find myself constantly amazed by the intriguing tales that unfold from his journey through the world of cinema. The story of Sunil Dutt’s initial skepticism towards Big B’s iconic voice is yet another fascinating chapter in the life of this legendary actor.

For many years, the renowned actor Amitabh Bachchan has held sway over the industry, enthralling audiences not just through exceptional acting skills, but also with his unique deep voice. Remarkably, actress Sheeba Akashdeep Sabir recently unveiled an intriguing story about the late Sunil Dutt. It seems that initially, Mr. Dutt wasn’t particularly fond of Big B’s voice which is now synonymous with legend. Interestingly, he assigned him a silent role in his movie due to this very reason. Moreover, she reminisced about her father-in-law’s views, who found the booming voice of Amitabh Bachchan peculiar at that time.

In an interview on Siddharth Kannan’s YouTube channel, actress Sheeba Akashdeep Sabir shared an intriguing tale about the late Sunil Dutt and his initial response to Amitabh Bachchan’s well-known deep voice. She disclosed that Dutt didn’t find the baritone appealing initially, which led him to cast Bachchan in a silent role in the 1971 film “Reshma Aur Shera.

In addition to her role in The Rocky and Rani’s Love Story, she also shared an anecdote about her father-in-law’s encounter with Amitabh Bachchan and reminisced about him commenting, “A man of heroic stature would come to our home and sit at my feet. I found his voice extraordinary, as it echoed in a powerful tone.

She also added that Sunil Dutt had voiced his disapproval of the actor’s vocal quality, likening it to a radio DJ’s. “Dutt sahab (Sunil Dutt) told me, ‘We found his voice unpleasant’,” she shared. This led to Amitabh Bachchan being given a silent role in one of Dutt’s films.

She added that ironically, the same baritone voice that is now iconic was not appreciated at the time, and many failed to recognize that it would eventually become more prominent than the actor himself.

Previously, in my pursuit of preserving the authenticity of my brand, I took legal steps in the Delhi High Court to safeguard my distinctive voice from unauthorized exploitation. Essentially, I initiated a lawsuit intending to protect my name, vocal identity, and visual representation, ensuring they wouldn’t be used for promotional purposes without my explicit approval. Subsequently, the court granted an interim injunction, restricting any encroachment upon my celebrity rights as a public figure.

In terms of his career, Amitabh Bachchan, who first gained fame as the “angry young man” in the 1970s, has built a lasting impact through his powerful acting performances. His recent endeavors involve taking on roles in Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD and Vettaiyan. At present, he is hosting the sixteenth season of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.
