Amitabh Bachchan’s Baghban co-star Samir Soni reveals crying on beach every evening for 3 months after film’s release; know why

In 2003, Samir Soni initially rose to fame when he played the part of a thankless son opposite Amitabh Bachchan’s character in Baghban. Despite the movie’s phenomenal success and acclaim, Samir disclosed in a recent interview that he didn’t receive any job offers for three months following its release. Looking back on that tough time, Samir confided that he would often go to the beach each night, feeling a whirlwind of emotions as he grappled with his identity within the entertainment world and wept uncontrollably.

During an interview with Ujjawal Trivedi on his YouTube channel, Samir Soni shared insights about his career path prior to Baghban. He noted that before then, he had acted in Dance Like A Man, a movie which received a National Film Award. Yet, despite the acclaim, he faced difficulties in landing roles afterward.

As I found myself presented with the opportunity to join the cast of Baghban under the guidance of esteemed director Ravi Chopra, I couldn’t help but wonder: Why am I being considered for this antagonist role?

Initially, he confessed to being perplexed by the casting choice for the movie, questioning why he was selected to portray one of the four reckless sons. Moreover, he revealed that he had joined the industry with dreams of becoming a hero, but found himself unexpectedly typecast in an unfavorable role.

After listening to the story, Samir Soni headed home, deep in thought about his upcoming actions. He pondered over his professional path, considering why a little movie titled “Dance Like A Man” had been awarded nationally, yet remained relatively unknown, preventing him from securing larger roles in future projects.

Acknowledging the obstacles to come, he chose to act upon it and contacted director Ravi Chopra directly. In their discussion, he asked for the part with the most on-screen presence next to Amitabh Bachchan to be assigned to him.

After our beloved movie struck gold at the box office, here I am, your devoted fan, still finding myself on the sidelines of the limelight. It’s been three months since Samir received a single work offer! As I reside by the tranquil beach, each evening finds me there, overwhelmed with frustration, as I watch the waves crash against the shore, mirroring my own unfulfilled dreams for him.

He frequently pondered about destiny, asking what further tasks were in store for him given all he’d given up for his acting career. Seeking clarity, he wondered if he was destined to be a hero or not. Admittedly, he had come to terms with taking on villainous roles as well.
