As a gamer who’s spent countless hours exploring virtual worlds and Los Angeles backstreets alike, I can genuinely appreciate the authenticity that Amor Prohibido brings to the table with their latest “Dance in the Rain” collection. Having grown up in the city myself, the ’90s LA vibe resonates deeply, and it’s refreshing to see a brand like Amor Prohibido embracing its roots so wholeheartedly.
Back in August, Amor Prohibido made quite an impact with the debut of its “Forever Yours” line, a heartfelt tribute to ’90s LA fashion and my roots as a Los Angeles native, born and raised. Now, Amor Prohibido is back, pouring out the “Dance in the Rain” collection, broadening the brand’s cosmos and bringing to life one of my personal beliefs.
“‘Dance in the Rain’ symbolizes that we can’t always dictate the course of events,” Escareño clarifies. “You might arrange for a picnic, but you can never predict the weather.”
The spirit of this brand is reflected in a diverse range of casual clothing items, all crafted locally in Los Angeles. These include water-resistant waxed jackets and dresses, as well as sweatsuits tailored to fit, reminiscent of the ’90s Muscle Beach bodybuilders’ style and colorfully named “Horchata”. Additionally, there’s a revamped version of Amor Prohibido’s popular wide-legged denim, featuring a split fabric construction with heavyweight heather grey cotton. The overall color palette draws inspiration from the designer’s personal experiences. When Escareño seeks respite from city life, he retreats to his parents’ house, and the blends of green and grey throughout the pieces reflect the shift from LA’s hot concrete sidewalks to the well-tended lawns of the surrounding suburbs.
Look forward to the complete “Dance in the Rain” collection by Amor Prohibido becoming available on their webstore on August 30 at 12 PM Pacific Time. If you reside in Los Angeles and wish to personally try on some items, feel free to send a message to the brand on Instagram to arrange an in-studio fitting appointment.
