The Peacock network is organizing an informal gathering that feels like a “Parks and Recreation” reunion, but this time the action will unfold in a setting other than Pawnee.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that Amy Poehler, my beloved Parks and Recreation star, is joining forces once more with her co-creator Mike Schur, following their NBC show’s conclusion in 2015. This time, they’re bringing laughter our way through a new comedy titled Dig, which Peacock has officially greenlit for a series. I can hardly contain my excitement as Amy will star and serve as an executive producer, working alongside Schur and J.J. Philbin (familiar faces from Only Murders in the Building and Single Parents). Not only that, but all three talented individuals will contribute their writing skills to this hilarious project. Can’t wait to see what they have in store for us!
The show titled Dig, produced by Universal Television (where both Schur and Pohler have ongoing contracts), is inspired by the novel Excavations by Kate Myers. In essence, it follows four female archaeologists at a dig site in Greece, each at distinct turning points in their lives. When they unearth an ancient secret that could potentially rewrite history, they find themselves entangled in a dangerous international conspiracy.
Amy Poehler’s upcoming show will be her first ongoing role in a live-action series since “Parks and Rec”. Notably, she won an Emmy for voicing Joy in last year’s “Inside Out 2” by Pixar. Other recent works of hers include the animated series “Duncanville”, where she also co-created it, Chelsea Peretti’s “First Time Female Director”, Netflix’s film “Wine Country”, and she hosts the podcast “Good Hang” from The Ringer.
The show is unique as it brings together the married duo, Schur and Philbin, for the first time in a half-hour series. Their previous collaboration was back in the late ’90s when they worked together at Saturday Night Live.
Under the banners of Schur (Fremulon) and Poehler (Paper Kite Productions), along with executive producers Morgan Sackett, Dave Becky, David Miner of 3 Arts, Sharon Jackson of Ocean Avenue, and Kate Arend and Jordan Grief from Paper Kite, Dig is being produced. The novelist of Excavations, Myers, serves as a co-executive producer for the series.
Poehler is represented by William Morris Endeavor (WME), 3 Arts Entertainment, Ocean Avenue Entertainment, and Sloane Offer; Schur is with United Talent Agency (UTA), 3 Arts Entertainment, and Hansen Jacobson; Philbin is represented by UTA and Rise Management; Myers is represented by Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and Claire Friedman at Inkwell Management.
(Here, I’ve grouped each talent with their respective agencies to make it clearer and easier to read.)
