An official Elder Scrolls Oblivion remake will release as soon as next month, claims report

There’s been buzz about an Unreal Engine 5 remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion since 2023, although Bethesda hasn’t confirmed it officially. The whispers started with an unverified developer and were later backed up by leaked court documents. Edwin discussed potential enhancements to the combat system in a post, but the same leak hinted at both a Fallout 3 remaster and Dishonored 3 as well. This could either make you cautiously optimistic or have you excitedly announcing “Dishonored 3!” to your pets on a regular basis.

According to Very Gary Computing’s report, “insider” NatetheHate speculates that the Oblivion remake will be unveiled within a few weeks. Nate suggests that the game might be launched before June, while other sources indicate it could come out as early as next month.

According to reports, Virtuous – a studio known for their work on Dark Souls, Uncharted, and more recently Metal Gear Delta – is said to be working on a project that’s being completely overhauled using Unreal Engine 5 (UE5). The game’s mechanics such as stamina, sneaking, blocking, archery, hit reactions, and the user interface are all receiving updates.

As a dedicated fan, it’s no secret that the elephant in the room, or rather the behemoth, is Skyblivion – the impressive fan-made remake of Oblivion, powered by Skyrim’s engine, which is still on schedule for a 2025 launch. This project has been brewing since 2012, and they announced a potential release year of 2023 way back in 2023. I sincerely believe that the speculations about an official Oblivion remaster surfacing that same year were more of a coincidence than a calculated move – given the ongoing discussions between the Skyblivion team and Bethesda throughout the development process, I don’t foresee any real friction there.

Despite my belief that Bethesda might demonstrate more acknowledgement towards their modding community by allowing Skyblivion’s release without immediate competition, I recognize the business logic behind not wanting to overlook potential sales from players who already enjoy the modern version of Oblivion. However, I still believe it would be appreciated if they could avoid releasing a similar product at the same time, as it might diminish the recognition given to the hard work and dedication put into Skyblivion by its creators.
