Ananya Panday garnered appreciation for her acting debut in the streaming series, “Call Me Bae.” Although her role gained her considerable acclaim, it appeared that her father, actor Chunky Panday, was initially reluctant to watch it because it wasn’t his preferred type of show. In a recent chat, Chunky admitted that he waited three days before finally tuning in, but once he started, he found himself unable to stop and ended up marathon-watching the entire series instead.
During an interview with News18, Chunky Panday shared insights about how his tastes and choices often vary from those of his daughter Ananya Panday. He confessed that it took him several days after the release of her OTT debut “Call Me Bae” before he could bring himself to watch it, due to finding it challenging to relate to the series’ tone.
In a surprising turn of events, Chunky admitted that the program didn’t quite align with his typical preferences, but once he gave it a try with the initial episodes, he found himself unable to resist the allure and devoured the entire season in one go. Intriguingly, he even revisited it afterwards. Expressing his admiration for the series, Chunky shared that he found it incredibly entertaining and enjoyable.
Chunky admitted that his opinion of Ananya’s acting abilities shifted significantly following the show, leading him to wonder where she may have acquired her acting talent from.
He pointed out that the roles he played in “Call Me Bae” were unlike anything he’d done before, and he admitted the difficulties that come with spearheading a series, given its extensive number of episodes.
Speaking highly of Ananya’s dedication, he expressed his satisfaction with her performance, pointing out that the highest praise an actor can get is when viewers think the character was tailor-made for them. Yet, he emphasized that Ananya is distinct from her on-screen persona in reality, underscoring that her talent to authentically play such a role showcases her exceptional acting capabilities.
While the actress from CTRL playfully stated that she no longer heeds her father Chunky Panday’s advice, especially following the flop of her movie with Vijay Deverakonda. In response to her comment, Chunky chuckled and conceded that they often have differing views.
He labeled himself as traditional, holding the view that protagonists should perform songs and dances, while the main male character handles action scenes. Yet, he conceded that Ananya’s methods resonate more with contemporary Gen-Z thinking. “Different strokes for different folks,” he stated, expressing hope that her decisions, which have proven successful thus far, will continue to be astute.
