HBO’s reboot series “And Just Like That” has managed to keep its devoted audience, primarily made up of dedicated fans of the original show, “Sex and The City.
The third season of the follow-up series is now on, featuring Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis reprising their roles as Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York-Goldenblatt in the bustling city of New York. In this installment, we follow the trio navigating life, romance, and friendship at the age of 50, with the exception of Kim Cattrall’s character, Samantha Jones, who will not be making a comeback.
Instead of Cattrall, the producer of SATC, Michael Patrick King, opted to bring in fresh faces to join the cast. Seema Patel (played by Sarita Choudhury) and Lisa Todd Wexley (portrayed by Nicole Ari Parker) were introduced as new characters to fill the void left by Samantha’s absence.
Additionally, although not as widely acclaimed as its predecessor, “And Just Like That” has skillfully tackled a wide range of midlife challenges faced by the characters. These include the passing of Mr. Big (Chris Noth), Harry’s recent cancer diagnosis, exploring sexuality again, and juggling parenthood with a demanding career in today’s digital age.
However, in the most recent episode broadcasted on July 3, there seems to be a recurring element in the plot that was noticed by viewers right away.
Viewers of the show expressed their thoughts on social media about Lisa’s father’s passing, which was depicted in episode six titled “Silent Mode.” The audience saw Ari Parker’s character emotionally calling Davis to inform them that her elderly father had unexpectedly passed away following a stroke. The funeral for this beloved figure was held at a local theater, where Lisa was given the responsibility of delivering the eulogy.
It’s worth noting that some attentive viewers may recall Lisa mentioning the loss of her father in the first season, specifically when discussing Big’s death in the premiere: “I was just like I am now when my father died last year.” However, it might come as a surprise to some that Lisa’s father wasn’t actually introduced until season two. An intriguing episode titled “Alive!” featured the appearance of Billy Dee Williams, famous for his role in Star Wars, who played Lawrence Todd at a dinner party hosted by his daughter.
Viewers of AJLT were swift to express doubts about the writers’ intentional or unintentional decision to have a character die twice. “Was this episode scripted by ChatGPT?” one critical comment asked. Susan Fales-Hill is identified as the primary writer for the episode, with Darren Star credited as creator and King serving as showrunner and overseeing the writers’ room. The Hollywood Reporter did not receive an immediate reply from HBO regarding this matter.
The first episode of season three for the show “And Just Like That” was watched by approximately 429,000 households within a span of three days after it was initially aired. This viewership figure represents a drop of 7% compared to the number of households (463,000) that tuned in for the season two premiere.
