As a long-time theater enthusiast and avid gamer with a soft spot for both Broadway shows and cutting-edge technology, I can hardly contain my excitement over the latest casting announcements for “McNeal,” Robert Downey Jr.’s Broadway debut! This production, featuring a star-studded cast and groundbreaking digital technology, promises to be an unforgettable experience.
Andrea Martin, Melora Hardin, and Ruthie Ann Miles have been added to the Broadway production of “McNeal,” headlined by Robert Downey Jr.
On Mondays update, it was revealed that a lifelike Metahuman Digital Twin of Downey would be featured in the filming, working together with Downey himself. This advanced technology was created by AGBO, the production company led by Anthony and Joe Russo, along with Downey.
Starting September 5, Ayad Akhtar’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, which is being directed by Bartlett Sher, will be performing at the Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont Theater. The opening night is scheduled for September 30.
In the production, Downey takes on the role of a gifted author dealing with the challenges of writing a new novel, while also confronting personal issues within his dysfunctional family, as well as an excessive preoccupation with advanced technology.
Team Downey, Downey’s production company, is collaborating with Lincoln Center Theater to bring a new play to Broadway. This will be the first time Downey appears on Broadway in a theatrical production.
I, Martin, proudly make my way back to Broadway after receiving Tony awards for my performances in “My Favorite Year” and “Pippin,” along with other noteworthy stage accomplishments. My reputation extends beyond the world of theater, as I’ve had a successful film and television career that started with “SCTV.” You may recognize me from hit shows like “My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” “Great News,” “Difficult People,” and “Only Murders in the Building,” among others.
In recognition of her notable acting career, Hardin is most famously known for portraying Jan Levinson on “The Office.” She has also graced our screens with her presence in shows like “Transparent” and “The Bold Type.” Previously, she made a splash on Broadway as Roxie Hart in the production of “Chicago.”
Miles has been awarded a Tony Award for her outstanding performance in the 2015 revival of “The King and I” on Broadway. More recently, she graced the Broadway stage in “Sweeney Todd,” as well as the City Center Encores! Production of “The Light in the Piazza.” Prior to these roles, Miles had also made an appearance in “Sunday in the Park with George.”
I’m thrilled to share that some new talented actors have joined the cast! Brittany Bellizeare, who you might recognize from “Flex,” is now part of our team. And Rafi Gavron, known for his role in “A Star is Born,” is also joining us. We’re equally excited to welcome Saisha Talwar to the production. These additions are sure to bring even more depth and excitement to our project!
