Where South Park goes, Digman! follows — literally.
The second season debut of Andy Samberg’s show “Digman!” has been moved back two weeks, landing on Wednesday, July 23rd. This schedule change mirrors the release date for season 27 of “South Park”. On Comedy Central, “Digman!” will air in the time slot following “South Park”, specifically at 10:30 PM (Eastern/Pacific Time).
The second season of Andy Samberg’s show “Digman!” is delayed by two weeks and will now premiere on July 23rd. This is the same date as the start of season 27 of “South Park”. On Comedy Central, “Digman!” will be shown after “South Park” at 10:30 PM.
The debut of the new season for the show South Park was postponed on a Wednesday, as the creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, are in a dispute over streaming rights with their network’s parent company, Paramount Global.
Parker and Stone are not happy about the delay, and they made that known.
Regarding Comedy Central’s announcement about the shift in release date for South Park, Trey Parker & Matt Stone expressed their concerns via Twitter, saying, ‘This merger is causing chaos and it’s disrupting our show. We are currently producing new episodes and we hope the audience can still enjoy them somehow.’
As a die-hard fan, I was all set for the premiere of “South Park” and “Digman!” on Wednesday, July 9. However, the merger that Trey Parker and Matt Stone hinted at between David Ellison’s Skydance and Paramount Global is slated to close by July 6. There’s a chance that deadline might get extended.
Parker and Stone assert that Jeff Shell, the incoming president of Skydance-Paramount, may be trying to sabotage other bids for the digital rights of South Park over the next two years, which currently belong to Paramount. They suspect that Shell aims to keep control of the South Park library and future episodes, even if it means potential losses for their partnership with Paramount, South Park Digital Studios.
Or in a shorter version:
Parker and Stone believe Jeff Shell is intentionally thwarting other bids for the next two years of South Park‘s digital rights, which are currently under Paramount. They suspect he wants to keep control over the show’s library and future episodes, even if it harms their joint venture with Paramount.
