The son of legendary cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi, Angad dared to tread his own path and carve out a niche for himself in Bollywood, much against his father’s wishes. His decision to chop off his hair for professional reasons was a bold move that many might find hard to make, especially when it comes to displeasing one’s parent.
In the year 2016, Angad Bedi, the actor, left the audience astonished with his performance in Shoojit Sircar’s film, Pink. He portrayed an antagonist role alongside Taapsee Pannu and Amitabh Bachchan. Interestingly, you may not know that Angad’s late father, Bishan Singh Bedi, the former Indian cricket captain, was displeased when Angad decided to cut his hair. Their relationship became strained to such an extent that they didn’t communicate for 20 years until the release of Pink.
In the latest installment of Cyrus Broacha’s podcast, Cyrus Says, Angad Bedi shared that his father, Bishan Singh Bedi, felt deeply troubled and wounded when I got a haircut for my professional commitments.
In the early stages of his career within the film industry, the actor known for his pink attire was cautioned that his long hair wouldn’t be suitable for Bollywood. Therefore, he decided to cut his hair, a move he described as being solely driven by professional reasons. However, this decision proved beneficial for him after the release of “Pink.”
Translation: “What did I do? I pondered that if I were to give it my all, I would do whatever was necessary. For 20 years, my father remained upset until the release of Pink. After the movie, he told me, ‘Son, now you explain your hairstyle to me,'” Angad shared.
At the age of 19, the actor from Soorma chose to chop off his hair, while the song “Pink” became popular when he was 33. During that time, there was a stretch when his father stopped talking to him, he mentioned.
After the success of Pink, Senior Bedi affectionately encouraged his son to be selective with his film choices, and in his happiness, he also wished him well for discovering a suitable career path.
Additionally, Angad mentioned that many individuals suggested he should regrow his hair and hinted that he might consider doing so in the future.
Apart from Angad Bedi’s notable television work in shows like Inside Edge (seasons 1 and 2), he has also made an appearance in various films such as Ungli, Soorma, F.A.L.T.U., Dear Zindagi, The Zoya Factor, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, Lust Stories 2, and several more.
In terms of his personal life, Angad is wedded to actress Neha Dhupia. Together, they have two children – a daughter and a son.
