As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for the rich history of Bollywood, I find the recent release of “Angry Young Men” on Prime Video India to be a fascinating glimpse into the lives and struggles of the legendary writer duo, Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar.
Salman Khan is included in a newly released documentary series that offers a glimpse into the life and hardships of the renowned writer duo, Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar from earlier times. This TV show, directed by Namrata Rao and co-produced by Salman Khan Films, includes many industry professionals and stars who shared insights about the screenwriters’ significant impact over a decade. Additionally, the star of Tiger 3 reminisced about the moment his father informed him of their separation.
In the TV series “Angry Young Men,” which premiered on Prime Video India on August 20th, Salman Khan discussed how the Hindi film industry seemed to distance itself from Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar. He explained that phones that once rang constantly day and night suddenly fell silent. At the height of their writing duo’s success, they could even ask someone to turn off the phone because it was always ringing. However, a time came when people started questioning if the phone was faulty, as there were no more calls coming in due to the apparent decline in contact from the industry.
Reflecting on a memorable moment from the past, I recall the day when my father, the legendary Salim Khan, shared some significant news at home, which left him visibly troubled. Traveling back in time, I remember that fateful day vividly; I was seated at our dining table in the living room, and Dad approached me with a concerned demeanor. He confided that there would be a change in our partnership. Intrigued by his decision, I asked for clarification, to which he humorously replied, “Javed Akhtar must have his reasons; it’s not as if he didn’t like the way I walk or my choice of track pants that led him to make this choice.” These words were later reported by The Indian Express.
In the realm of screenwriting, the duo Salim-Javed were highly influential, altering the industry’s viewpoint on scriptwriters significantly. They dominated the 70s with their powerful writing skills. However, around 1982, they decided to part ways. Javed Akhtar, father of Zoya and Farhan Akhtar, explained that they once worked together for 18 hours a day but eventually grew separate social circles. He attributed their breakup primarily to the waning phase of their career, stating that their work began to show signs of tiredness. As per Salim Khan, their separation was amicable.
