As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but share my awe when Bobby Deol’s stunning debut in Sandeep Reddy Vanga‘s Animal hit theaters. The anticipation for his comeback to the silver screen was palpable, but what truly left us spellbound was how he nailed the menacing antagonist role. What made it even more intriguing was Bobby’s character being portrayed as deaf and mute – a choice that added depth and complexity to his performance. In an exclusive interview, the director confessed that the idea of crafting such a unique character for Bobby ignited his creative passion!
Following Bobby Deol’s reappearance in movie theaters with Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal in 2023, viewers were delightfully taken aback. However, some spectators found it puzzling that his character was both deaf and mute. In an interview with Game Changers on YouTube, this accomplished director revealed more about this topic.
In a recent interview with YouTube, the director of Kabir Singh expressed that numerous films have portrayed scenes where the protagonist and antagonist engage in verbal abuse over the phone. To avoid such repetition, he opted to minimize such interactions in his subsequent Hindi movie.
In the process of creating Bobby’s character for our action-thriller, an intriguing thought crossed his mind: ‘What if he can’t speak?’ This led to a series of thoughts: ‘If he’s losing his hearing, how about making him deaf and mute? I find it thrilling to imagine a deaf and mute character engaging in a climactic battle. So, I decided on making him mute.’ The Arjun Reddy debutant shared this thought process.
Despite Deol’s captivating portrayal of Abrar Haque winning praise from many viewers, there was a general sentiment among them that his character could have been given more screen time in the film. In an exclusive conversation with TopMob, the actor from Ek Badnaam Aashram admitted that when he was asked about this, he too felt that he would have appreciated having more screen presence.
Reflecting more, the director shared with us, “However, when I learned I had 15 days to work with Sandeep Reddy Vanga, I knew it would be extraordinary. That’s what I expressed, not because I was seeking more screen time. I simply responded based on their question. Sometimes, things don’t always go as planned – that’s the way it is.
