During the premiere of Another Simple Favor at the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival, Anna Kendrick seemed taken aback when questioned about Blake Lively’s high-profile court case with Justin Baldoni. While publicizing the eagerly awaited sequel, Kendrick responded with a perplexed look and a humorous comment, avoiding the controversy surrounding her fellow cast member.
Last Friday, I was strolling down the red carpet at the premiere of “Another Simple Favor” in Austin, Texas. A reporter from Variety inquired about how the recent developments between Lively and Baldoni could potentially impact the movie. 39-year-old Kendrick looked puzzled and asked, “What seems to be the issue?”, followed by a lighthearted comment, “Apparently, I still have Ayahuasca remnants lingering in my past, but I’ve heard the film is fantastic.
Her comment was made during one of Lively’s significant public outings following the filing of a sexual harassment lawsuit against Justin Baldoni, her co-star from It Ends With Us, in December. At 37 years old, Lively asserted that Baldoni, aged 41, and his associates had engineered a malicious campaign against her. However, Baldoni has refuted these allegations and countered with a defamation and extortion lawsuit worth $400 million against Lively, her spouse Ryan Reynolds, and their representative, Leslie Sloane, in January.
In spite of the ongoing legal issues, Lively attended the SXSW event alongside Kendrick and director Paul Feig, signifying their first public appearance together since A Simple Favor (2018). The upcoming sequel finds Kendrick’s character Stephanie and Lively’s Emily jetting off to Capri, Italy for Emily’s lavish wedding. However, their joy is short-lived as they encounter deceit and murder instead.
At the gathering, Feig shared his enthusiasm for rejoining his principal actresses, saying to PEOPLE, “The first film was simply fantastic for me. I enjoy collaborating with both of them, along with the entire cast.
In actuality, another source has reassured fans, stating emphatically that there’s no underlying tension or conflict between Kendrick and Lively. This insider even mentioned that they continue to plan on doing joint interviews together.
Despite staying aloof from the ongoing legal issues, Kendrick and Lively continue to lead the promotional push for Another Simple Favor. The upcoming sequel, filled with intrigue and witty humor, is scheduled to stream on Prime Video starting May 1.
