In a fresh start to the New Year, Mikey Madison adds another honor to her list: the National Board of Review’s Breakthrough Performance Award, presented at their Awards Gala on January 7th. The actress’s acting in Sean Baker’s latest production, titled Anora, has continued to garner praise, with the 2024 film consistently appearing among the best movies of the year according to various lists. With her career trajectory on an upward swing, Madison has also shared some insight into the directors she hopes to collaborate with in the future.
Reflecting on a recent interview with IndieWire, I can’t help but express my admiration for the directors I’d love to work with next. Among them is Alice Rohrwacher, whose name I find myself mentioning frequently. Then there’s Luca Guadagnino, just talking about him makes me feel as if I might faint!
Guadagnino has been garnering his fair share of awards this year, with two remarkable films, “Challengers” in April and “Queer” in December, adding to his impressive portfolio. If given the opportunity, a collaboration between myself and Guadagnino would truly be a dream come true.
Madison has collaborated with a renowned director, Quentin Tarantino, on one occasion for his movie “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” However, it appears her career is gaining momentum following her standout role in “Anora,” making future partnerships even more intriguing. Sean Baker’s work with Madison showcases her versatile acting abilities, as she delivers dynamic physical performances alongside introspective and subdued moments throughout the film. With Guadagnino at the helm of future projects, there’s no doubt that Madison will continue to shine in various roles.
Luca Guadagnino’s Next Films Could be Great Fits for Mikey Madison
Previously, Mikey Madison has mentioned Luca Guadagnino before. IndieWire’s report revealed that their meeting took place at a Deadline Contenders event in LA. When asked about the encounter, she shared that he had watched her latest movie “Anora”. She expressed admiration for him, saying, “I believe he has seen Anora. He’s one of my all-time favorite directors; I think he’s a genius. I was thrilled to meet him, and I find him amazing.
In addition to the outstanding movies Luca Guadagnino released this year, his body of work has been diverse and distinctive. For instance, he directed Bones and All, based on the novel of the same name, and gave us a refreshing take on Suspiria, a remake of the 1977 Dario Argento original that features chilling and innovative new elements. This director has shown his versatility by mastering multiple genres, always bringing something fresh to each project he undertakes. Given his previous collaborations with actors like Timothee Chalamet, Dakota Johnson, and Zendaya, it’s possible we might see him working with Madison on a future film.
Currently, Gudagnino is working on two upcoming productions: a Sgt. Rock movie for DC Studios featuring Daniel Craig, and a remake of American Psycho starring Austin Butler (however, the original author has reservations regarding this adaptation). It’s intriguing to think about Madison being involved in either project, but with the actors expressing positive sentiments towards the director and her desire to collaborate with him, it’s important to note that nothing is definitively set yet.
