As a seasoned gamer of reality TV shows, I can’t help but feel a thrill coursing through my veins as another spinoff of the beloved series, “Love Island,” seems to be on the horizon. With my DVR already overflowing with episodes from the UK, US, and All Stars versions, I can only imagine the endless hours of entertainment that a third spinoff could potentially bring.
A third Love Island spinoff might be in the works with ITV America and Peacock.
On Tuesday, during Content London, ITV America CEO David George discussed the popular reality show, whose format was adapted by CBS from the U.K. as Love Island USA in 2018. George played a significant role in the sale and emphasized the success of its spin-offs, including Love Island: All Stars and Love Island Games.
George shared his thoughts on Comcast’s decision to split off its cable networks, creating two groups for NBCUniversal’s linear networks. He stated, “This division made it clear to me that Peacock is the way forward because they retained Bravo, providing a vast amount of content for Peacock. The branding of Peacock, being designed to be enjoyable and entertaining, fits us perfectly… Interestingly, we are currently discussing a potential third spinoff of ‘Love Island’ with them, which underscores how crucial that brand is to their streaming service.
The latest season of “Love Island USA” broke records as the most popular streaming original series in the U.S. during summer periods. George added: “[Love Island] was unprecedented in the market, becoming a cultural phenomenon that was essential viewing on a streaming platform… This is a significant shift in the industry, as streaming services are increasingly resembling traditional television networks.
Peacock reps did not immediately respond to request for comment from The Hollywood Reporter.
ITV America ranks among the top U.S. producers of unscripted programming. George oversees creative development, production, day-to-day operations, and growth initiatives for the entire organization, encompassing entities such as ITV Entertainment, Leftfield Pictures, Sirens Media, Thinkfactory Media, High Noon Entertainment, and Good Caper Content.
