Anthony Michael Hall Reveals Surprising Truths About John Hughes!

There’s been a lot of buzz online about the possibility of a new St. Elmo’s Fire sequel. This has sparked interest in other iconic ’80s movies, like Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club, which are especially relevant this year as they mark their 40th anniversary. In an interview with MovieWeb to discuss his tough role in Reacher season 3 alongside Alan Ritchson, Anthony Michael Hall, who starred in both films, expressed admiration for director John Hughes.

I owe my success to him; he stood on the giant shoulders of legends like John Hughes, Harold Ramis, and Lorne Michaels, who I was fortunate enough to collaborate with early in my career. It’s all about the people you surround yourself with, the collaboration, and the experiences you share along the way.

1985 saw Anthony Michael Hall portray Brian Johnson in “The Breakfast Club”, alongside Molly Ringwald, Andrew McCarthy, Emilio Estevez, Judd Hirsch, and Ally Sheedy. This dramedy, which followed a group of students serving detention on a Saturday at school, was an instant success and catapulted the young cast members to stardom, setting the stage for the emergence of the so-called Brat Pack with “St. Elmo’s Fire” in 1986. Rob Lowe and Demi Moore, who were part of that film and this year’s Oscar nominee for “The Substance,” are rumored to be producing a sequel titled “St. Elmo’s Fire 2.” In essence, “The Breakfast Club” was the beginning of their journey to fame.

Anthony Michael Hall Goes from a Brat to a Villain

Keep an eye out for possible news regarding a follow-up to Hall’s initial comedy series. Given Rob Lowe’s recent hints about St. Elmo’s Fire, there’s a good chance a sequel might be under discussion. For the time being, Hall is immersed in work. In Season 3 of Amazon Prime Video’s hit show, Reacher, Hall portrays Zachary Beck, a questionable millionaire and Maine-based oriental rug importer hiding an elaborate crime network. Alan Ritchson’s Jack Reacher enters the picture as he strives to rescue a colleague who has been kidnapped by criminals linked to Beck’s organization.

I’m utterly thrilled about the intense new season, which features Sonya Cassidy, Brian Tee, Johnny Berchtold, and Maria Sten. Notably, Maria Sten is set to lead the upcoming Neagley spin-off series! I can’t help but express my admiration for Amazon Prime; it truly is a fantastic streaming platform. As for my role as a villain, it was an intriguing challenge that I relished playing.

Growing up, I admired several actors who excelled at portraying captivating villains, such as Jack Nicholson and Christopher Walken. I find playing bad guys fascinating; it offers an opportunity to balance darkness with humor, while still creating a compelling narrative. This season’s storyline involving [Beck’s] son was particularly enjoyable to delve into. The actors were all exceptionally talented individuals.
